Separate print drivers, settings tools and firmware
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| Windows | The current PC Drivers listing names AP1300/AP1400 and Windows 10/11 x86_64. AP1300 requires a PC RS-232 port or USB-to-RS-232 converter. |
| Debian CUPS | The official page offers details of a Debian Linux CUPS x86 driver on request. This does not establish every distribution, ARM or macOS. |
| Settings / firmware | Settings Editor v1.14 is a configuration/demo tool with a different role from the print driver. Flash Upgrade Utility handles firmware/fonts; it is not the first step for a failed print job. |
Listing checked 26 October 2026. A date in the Able-Drivers.zip URL is not a verified release date/version. ZIP contents, signatures and runtime were not tested; installation success or ARM64 compatibility is not established.
Distinguish the base AP1300 from variants
AP1300 is a portable thermal printer. The p.4 table specifies RS-232 for AP1300, adds Bluetooth on AP1300BT and assigns larger rolls to AP1310. AP1400 USB features are not base AP1300 features.
Before buying stock: user-guide p.9 gives 57.5±0.5mm width, while the current product/2015 data sheet give 57.0±0.5mm. AP1300 roll diameter is 36mm in the guide versus 35mm in the 2016 quick guide. Do not merge these into a universal tolerance; confirm the supplied unit and approved roll A05836TPR1. Do not choose the AP1310 55mm roll.
Check RS-232 and the USB converter separately
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| RS-232 | Base AP1300 uses serial data. Check the specified RJ12 data cable and D9 PC route. Do not substitute a telephone lead or TTL adapter. |
| USB converter | AP1300USBC provides a USB-to-RS-232 route, not native printer USB. As a common PC check, establish the converter driver/COM port, then select that same port in the printer driver. |
| Serial settings | The documented default is 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity. It is configurable: compare actual printer/host settings and flow control rather than resetting blindly. |
Self print by double-clicking feed in Idle
- Check battery and paper. A single feed-button press wakes sleep. Use the LED table to establish Idle readiness rather than Spool.
- In Idle, press and release the feed button twice in quick succession. The demo/test includes firmware version, calibration data and character set. No timed long press is substituted.
- If device-only output works but host jobs fail, compare queue, COM port, serial settings and the correct driver as common PC checks. The host can alter or disable button functions; check the supplied system if behavior differs.
Load the thermal roll and check jams
- With printing stopped, slide the lid-release button forward to open the lid.
- Use a roll with its heat-sensitive coating on the outside; unwind a little paper and insert it.
- Close the lid, check feed and tear excess paper at the tear bar. For a jam, reopen the lid and straighten the paper before closing; do not force it through a closed exit.
AP1300 print and power troubleshooting
Separate device mode, charging and paper state before reinstalling a driver. The same double click can mean self test or stored-job printing depending on the mode.
Nine LED patterns: Normal versus Spool
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| Steady green | Running from battery; Normal mode. |
| Fast green flash | Running; Spool stores data without printing. |
| Long green / short red | Low battery; Normal mode. |
| Short green / short red | Low battery; Spool mode. |
| Short green / long orange | Trickle charging; Normal mode. |
| Long orange flash | Trickle charging; Spool mode. |
| Fast orange flash | Fast charging; Spool, printing prohibited. |
| Fast red flash | Error; Spool, printing prohibited. Report a persistent condition to the manufacturer. |
| No light | Sleep, depleted battery or disconnected battery are possible; the light alone does not identify a fault. |
This summarizes the p.10 table. It does not assign measured flash durations or numeric error codes. A system designer can program other patterns.
Use the approved charger with the battery fitted
The standard 1.8Ah NiMH battery is the primary supply. The charger alone cannot operate the printer without the battery. A new unit may have a fitted but disconnected/discharged pack. Use approved packs/chargers and disconnect the external charger before removing/replacing the pack. Do not open the pack or short its contacts.
User-guide p.7 estimates about 15 hours charging with the pack installed, not a guarantee in every condition. For storage recharging, the newer guide says at least every three months; the 2016 quick guide says four. Refer to the newer guide and confirm the supplied pack’s care requirements.
Sleep data loss and release of stored jobs
There is no hardware power switch. The base model’s factory sleep interval is 30 seconds of inactivity, but the host can change it. Sleep turns the LED off and loses buffered data; user settings such as baud persist through sleep/battery replacement. Wake with a single feed press and check job state.
Paper out, an open lid, fast charging, errors or host commands can enter Spool. By default, clearing paper/lid conditions can release stored jobs; a double feed click can also print stored data. Do not mistake a Spool double click for self test: check pending jobs to avoid duplicate receipts. Resolve fast-charge/error printing prohibition first.
Eight cause checks with this model’s driver link
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| Host only | Compare self print, then check OS, driver, queue and selected port as common PC checks. Check section |
| USB not found | Identify the serial-converter route and whether its COM port is available. Check section |
| Garbled text | Compare actual baud/data/parity/flow control with the host. Avoid a forced reset to defaults. Check section |
| Blank paper | Check thermal stock orientation and correct loading first. Check section |
| Flashing green | Check Spool, missing paper and open lid. Clearing the cause can release stored jobs. Check section |
| Stops mid-job | Low voltage can trigger sleep and lose buffered data. Check job state before resending. Check section |
| Orange / red | Distinguish charging, errors and printing prohibition by the exact pattern. Do not invent numeric codes or flash durations. Check section |
| Stock choice | Check the differing width/diameter sources and confirm stock approved for the supplied unit. Check section |
