A799 official downloads and POS routes
Start with the official A799 download list, then match the software to your Windows application or POS system. A printer that cannot produce its own diagnostic receipt needs paper, cover, power or service checks before a driver reinstall.
A799 identity and fitted configuration
This guide covers the A799 two-colour thermal receipt printer identified on the A799-UG00001 Rev. B manual. A799II is a separate model: do not transfer its wireless features or procedures to A799. Read the rear Model ID and inspect the connectors actually fitted to your unit.
Software selection and listing limits
| Route | Selection and scope |
|---|---|
| Windows MiniDriver | The current support list labels Universal MiniDriver v1.03 for Windows 7/8/10/11 (recommended). The linked filename says V105, so the payload version was not confirmed. |
| A799 32-bit / 64-bit | Separate A799 packages are labelled v3.1.01. Match OS architecture and the POS supplier’s requirements; a 64-bit label does not prove ARM64 support. |
| OPOS | Use for a POS application that requires OPOS. The list labels v1.14.1.21, while its linked filename says 1.14.0.21. Check the package readme and application requirements. |
| JavaPOS / Linux | The current shared support list offers JPOS v1.14 for Linux and Windows, requiring Java. This is a Java POS integration route, not a promise of an ordinary CUPS print queue. |
| macOS | The shared support list states that no native Mac OS X driver is available. A current macOS installation or compatibility route was not verified here. |
Checked 20 October 2026: these are official listing descriptions, not verified installer contents, signatures or successful installations. Archived or cached product pages may show different package choices; use the current exact-model list and ask the supplier when they disagree. Firmware and configuration utilities are not replacements for the print driver.
Separate Printer Class, Native and Comm
| USB path | Meaning and check |
|---|---|
| Printer Class | The historical Driver Help associates Windows MiniDriver printing through the Windows Print System with Printer Class USB. |
| Native USB | The same document associates an OPOS USB application with the Native USB driver and matching printer configuration. |
| Comm Class / emulated COM | USB communication-port emulation lets an application use a virtual serial port. The POS supplier must confirm whether direct USB or serial emulation is required, including any firmware dependency. |
Compare the diagnostic receipt’s USB Driver Type with the application’s requirements. These are different software paths, not three drivers to install at once. Driver Help is a 2006 document: its Windows 98/2000/XP examples do not establish current OS support. Do not change DIP switches, boot firmware or saved interface settings simply to try each mode.
USB, PoweredUSB and cash-drawer sockets
The exact manual lists RS-232 25-pin, USB/RS-232 9-pin, Ethernet, PoweredUSB and parallel configurations. A unit does not necessarily have all of them. Ordinary USB and PoweredUSB are different connections. Use the illustrated USB socket, not the cash-drawer connector: the manual warns that a wrong connection can damage the printer. PoweredUSB connection work requires the host computer off; follow the appropriate power and cable instructions for the actual configuration.

Load the thermal roll from the bottom
Use the recommended thermal receipt roll for the installed configuration. Remove its seal and damaged leading edge, place the roll so it unwinds from the bottom, leave a few inches outside, then hold the paper while closing the cover. Press Feed to check movement and tear off the excess. Match the paper type to the configured stock; do not assume every A799 width or two-colour setup is identical.
Print a diagnostic receipt with cover and Feed
- Make sure receipt paper is loaded.
- Open the receipt cover.
- Press and hold the paper Feed button.
- Close the cover while still holding Feed, until the configuration printout begins.
This is the ordinary diagnostic print on manual page 19, also illustrated in the Setup Guide. It does not require entering the separate DIP-switch configuration menu. Read the actual interface and USB Driver Type on the receipt. If this prints but the intended POS job does not, compare the host application, selected queue/port and same-model driver route. It does not prove a host job succeeded.

Five green-light and tone conditions
| State | Meaning and first check |
|---|---|
| Green steadily on | Normal indication; it does not prove successful host communication. |
| Fast steady green flashing | Paper out, cover open or a knife that cannot return home can share this indication. Check paper and closure; persistent knife trouble needs service. |
| Slow steady green flashing | Paper low if a low-paper sensor is fitted; another problem is also possible. Check the whole condition, not this pattern alone. |
| Low/high two-tone startup sound | Page 26 describes this as powered and ready. It is not a numeric error code or a universal beep-count map. |
| Assorted beeps and green flashes | The manual treats this as a serious condition: stop using the printer and contact an authorised service representative. |

Eight symptom checks
| Situation | Check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| No Windows / POS output | Common host check: confirm exact A799 software, intended queue and actual port. | Next check → |
| USB detected but application silent | Compare Printer Class, Native and Comm requirements with the diagnostic receipt. | Next check → |
| Fast flashing green | Check roll, latched cover and the documented multiple possible causes. | Next check → |
| No diagnostic receipt | Verify paper loading and the exact cover/Feed sequence. | Next check → |
| Light or spotty output | Check roll orientation, suitable stock and the quality guidance. | Next check → |
| Two-colour output missing or inconsistent | Compare the actual paper type with the diagnostic configuration. | Next check → |
| Vertical column or one side missing | Stop using the printer and arrange authorised service. | Next check → |
| Stops or loses power / USB data | Separate power, cooling and actual USB connection checks. | Next check → |
Light print, two-colour faults and service limits
For light or spotty print, check the loaded roll and recommended thermal stock first. The manual distinguishes dirty printhead and paper variation, and refers internal cleaning to the A799 Service Guide; it does not justify a generic alcohol-cleaning recipe. For inconsistent two-colour output, compare the paper type with the diagnostic receipt before asking the supplier about configuration. Do not copy density or head-energy commands from another model. A missing vertical column or one missing side of the receipt is a serious electronics condition: stop use and contact authorised service.
Power, overheating and USB interruption
For no operation, check cable seating at both ends, power from the actual supply or host, and a fully latched cover. If the printhead overheats, let it cool. For interrupted ordinary USB data, check the cable and host port and eliminate unnecessary extensions or hubs as the manual directs. These checks do not establish that an unsupported POS USB mode will work. For recurring paper or cutter trouble, do not force the knife or attempt internal repair.
Official evidence and verification scope
Verified 20 October 2026 from the exact A799 34-page User Guide, A799-UG00001 Rev. B (October 2008), the 4-page Setup Guide Rev. A, the historical 4-page Driver Help and current official HTML listings. Ten complete selected User Guide pages, two Setup pages and two Driver Help pages were visually reviewed. PDF page numbers match printed User Guide page numbers. Product overview/specification values disagree on speed, memory and warranty, so this guide does not use them as fixed specifications. No numeric fault codes, A799II hardware approval, installer execution, physical printer test or current CPU/signature/runtime verification is claimed.
