1140 official support and downloads
Use the exact 1140 product Download tab. For the public European files, open Printer Driver & Utilities → Matrix → 1140, or Documentation → Matrix → 1140. Match the region, hardware and package requirements; 1145 is a separate model.
9-pin impact printing with USB as standard
1140 is a ribbon-based serial dot-matrix printer: 80 columns at 10 cpi and up to five-part forms, including the original. It uses sheet/friction or rear tractor feeding. It is not a direct-thermal linerless or toner printer.
The global product and exact July 2026 manual identify USB as standard. Parallel, serial, Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth are additional interface options. Inspect the actual unit and fitted board; do not promise all ports or built-in wireless on every 1140. The driver folder’s 1145 pathname is a shared-family file location, not a reason to select 1145 in your application.

The global product and European 1140 entries currently show different versions. The European rows were opened under the actual 1140 section:
| Official entry | Verified scope |
|---|---|
| European Windows driver · 6.14 · 1.27 MB | TD1xxxDriverSetup6.14.zip, a 32/64-bit Tally Dascom 1xxx driver. The row names Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11 and Server 2008–2016/2019/2022, certified and Package Aware. It does not establish Windows ARM support. |
| European configuration utility · 1.0.64 · 48.11 MB | General Tally Dascom Config Tool changes setup; it is distinct from the Windows print driver. The global product instead lists driver6.12, Config Tool1.65.0.0 and manualV25.1.0, so do not merge those version fields. |
Open the official European Download Center and select the 1140 branches above. Documentation there lists User Guide V26.1.0, July 2026, and a shared graphical 114x quick guide. Current Mac/Linux and Windows ARM packages are not verified here. The global manual Download control opened a puzzle gate; no CAPTCHA was solved. The separate official Europe PDF is publicly linked.
The guide first connects/disconnects the data cable with both printer and computer switched off. For its automatic Windows DriverSetup installation, the printer must then be USB-connected and powered on; manual installation is a different branch. Confirm 1140, the actual port and the selected emulation. Preserve a working queue, then compare a device status page and one small PC job. The configuration tool and printer/Ethernet firmware are separate downloads; their listing is not an instruction to update firmware for every printing fault.
Hold Online while powering on for the status page
The power-on table identifies S4 as Online and assigns holding S4 at power-on to Self Test / Status Page. It prints printer settings and a pattern independently of the PC.
- Load supported paper through the correct path, with its gap lever set for the actual form.
- Switch off, hold Online (S4) and switch on to enter the documented status-page function.
- Inspect the pattern and settings. If they print normally while host output fails, compare connection, emulation, PC software and this 1140 driver.
The table does not specify a fixed number of seconds or a release beep for this test. Holding Online for three seconds after normal power-on instead enters Setup; its changes can be saved permanently. Hex Dump and factory-default/firmware combinations are different functions. Do not use them just to obtain a status page.
Nine faults need the whole LED and beep condition
Read the lamps in this order: Power/Paper Out, Font1, Font2, Online. “No change” means the selected-font state remains, not necessarily off. Normally Online on is ready, off is offline, and Font1/Font2 blinking together can mean the tractor paper is at tear-off position. The error chart below takes precedence over interpreting one flashing lamp alone.
| Fault group | Complete lamps / beep and action | Help |
|---|---|---|
| Head too hot | Power flashes; Font1/2 unchanged; Online flashes; no beep. Let the head cool. | Details |
| Paper-path switching fault | Power flashes; Font1/2 unchanged; Online flashes; continuous buzzer. Restore the selector position used by the loaded paper. | Details |
| Paper jam | Power flashes; Font1/2 unchanged; Online on; one beep. Stop and clear the accessible paper path safely. | Details |
| Paper end | Power flashes; Font1/2 unchanged; Online off; one beep. Check actual stock and reload. This pattern is shared with sensor failure. | Details |
| Carriage initial-position fault | Power off; Font1 off; Font2 and Online flash; continuous buzzer. Record the complete pattern; recurring faults need service. | Details |
| Code Stripe problem | Power off; Font1 off; Font2 and Online flash; continuous buzzer. Same lamps as the preceding row; they do not uniquely identify which component failed. | Details |
| Paper sensor failure | Power flashes; Font1/2 unchanged; Online off; one beep. The paper-end pattern is identical; use stock/path evidence and ask for service if it persists. | Details |
| Paper-width problem | Power flashes; Font1/2 unchanged; Online off; no beep. Check actual width, straight loading and detected paper area. | Details |
| Head thermal-sensor failure | Power, Font1 and Font2 off; Online flashes; no beep. Persistent faults need the dealer, not internal sensor repair. | Details |

Use the fitted interface and active Online state
The status-page diagnostic separates printer mechanics from host problems. For local USB, check the rear data cable and intended queue/port; for optional interfaces, use the actual board documentation and corresponding host settings. Serial settings must agree at both ends. As common host checks, review a paused queue and wrong default printer before reinstalling. An optional-interface listing does not prove that board is present.
Emulation, line endings and margins
The specification names ESC/P2 and IBM 2380+. The troubleshooting table requires the software driver to match the printer’s selected emulation. Double spacing directs attention to Auto LF, while overprinting and lines starting where the previous line ended have different Auto CR recommendations. Compare the symptom, application line endings and existing setting before changing it; do not apply one universal CR/LF switch.
Jagged vertical lines can require print-alignment checking; wrong top margin requires application and printer page settings to agree. Hex Dump is a developer diagnostic for host commands, not an ordinary driver repair. Record working settings before entering Setup, because returning online can save them.
Sheet, tractor and thickness controls are different
Change the paper path only after unloading paper. Selector forward is friction/single-sheet, rear is tractor/continuous forms. For sheets, align the left guide to its mark and adjust the right guide. For tractor stock, seat the first three holes on each side, close both doors, keep the paper flat without overtension, lock the right tractor and use Load/Eject.
The loading chapter maps single sheets to gap1P–2P, three-ply to3P–4P, four-ply to4P–5P and five-ply to5P; RIBBON is the open position for ribbon handling, not a printing setting. This is a form-specific table, not a rule to infer missing thickness ranges. Follow the table for actual stock.
Place incoming/outgoing forms straight and leave room behind the printer. The setup drawing says not to stretch paper too taut, while the jam checklist says stretched taut; use flat alignment with secure pins and no excessive tension. For jams, power off, unplug and let the head cool before removing accessible damaged paper/obstructions. Recurrent sensor, width or hole-tearing problems require the dealer.
Ribbon and solvent-free platen care
For ribbon installation, switch off, let the head cool and move the gap lever to the illustrated open/RIBBON position. Seat the cartridge/frame, turn the ribbon knob clockwise until taut and check smooth motion, then restore the actual paper gap. Incorrect fit, worn ribbon and excessive/insufficient gap can cause pale, dark, smeared or blank output.
The maintenance chapter recommends cleaning after six months or300 operating hours, whichever comes first, with power off and mains unplugged. Use a soft damp exterior cloth and mild detergent, and a gentle soft vacuum brush for paper particles without pressing the carriage flat cable. Do not lubricate parts yourself if motion remains poor.
The platen and rollers use a little water on a soft cloth, gentle manual knob rotation and a dry cloth afterward. Alcohol is excluded because it can harden rubber; solvent, kerosene and abrasive cleaners are also excluded. Do not copy a dye-sublimation printer’s alcohol-on-roller recipe.
Identical patterns limit fault diagnosis
The chart gives identical patterns for carriage initial-position/Code Stripe faults and for paper end/paper sensor failure. These lamps do not prove a unique broken part. Read actual stock/path evidence and retain the full pattern. The manual permits an off/on transient check for fatal faults, followed by the dealer if unresolved; avoid repeated resets or internal repairs. A missing numeric error code should not be filled in with a guessed number.
