| Windows driver | Windows 11-selected list: Printer Driver 2.60.00, PM400_X64_260_NA.exe, 26.2 MB, 3 December 2025. Compare actual OS/CPU and package requirements; an x64 filename does not establish ARM64 operation. |
| Combo | PM400_Lite_NA.exe, 13.2 MB, 13 January 2025. This installer obtains the printer driver, Software Updater and Network Installer. Its download size is not the full installed driver size. |
| Remote Print | A separate Epson Connect driver for Internet printing. Its multi-model Ethernet/Server wording does not establish PM-400 physical ports or extend the ordinary model driver’s supported systems. |
These are labels, dates and filenames observed in the US list on 26 October 2026. No installer/firmware was downloaded or run; signatures, ARM64 and runtime on a specific OS build were not verified. Check other OS selections and package documentation separately.
Compact photo inkjet: confirm region and exact model
PictureMate PM-400 (C11CE84201) is a four-color CMYBK inkjet photo printer. Its supplies and checks differ from thermal receipt or dye-sublimation ribbon printers. This guide checks the Canadian official product and exact US support listing; also compare supplies/software for your sales region.
Distinguish both USB roles and wireless
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| Micro USB | Distinguish the computer’s Micro USB connection from the external-device USB port. Check for a data-capable cable and follow the selected installer’s connection sequence. |
| USB / card | The front USB port serves external storage/PictBridge, alongside a memory-card slot. Not every external device is guaranteed; do not mistake it for the host-computer cable port. |
| Wi-Fi | Supports 2.4 GHz wireless and Wi-Fi Direct. The guide notes regional 802.11 b/g versus b/g/n variation. Do not infer an Ethernet port or scanning function. |

Start with the printer’s nozzle pattern
- Load 4×6-inch (102×152 mm) paper. Use Home → Setup → Maintenance, pressing OK at each selection.
- Select Nozzle Check → OK, then press Start to print the pattern. Use the explicit 4×6 size in the instructions rather than deriving a new minimum from the screen illustration.
- If lines are complete, use Finish Nozzle Check → OK. For gaps or a faint pattern, follow Head Cleaning. Compare host-only failures against the exact model’s driver and connection. PM-400 driver guidance

Printable side, short edge and paper registration
- Move the edge guide right. The guide covers photo sizes up to 5×7 inches, while the nozzle check uses 4×6.
- Load glossy/printable side up, short edge first, against the left side of the feed slot. Short-edge loading applies even to a landscape image.
- Slide the guide gently against the paper without exceeding its arrow mark. If prompted, select the actual paper size/type on the LCD and match the application/driver settings.

Six selected LCD message groups
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| Printer error | Switch off and on, then check for a jam if it persists. Contact Epson if there is no jam or the fault recurs. |
| Paper Configuration | If disabled, enable Paper Configuration for AirPrint. Distinguish this from a PC-driver fault and confirm the actual paper size/type. |
| Ink is low | Printing may continue until replacement is requested. Low ink differs from an expended cartridge and does not guarantee cleaning is available. |
| Ink pad: near end | Contact support for a near-end pad. The guide permits Start to resume, but that does not remove the replacement requirement. |
| Ink pad: at end | At end of service life, switch off and contact Epson. Do not apply the near-end continuation or a reset utility as a repair. |
| IP / subnet | An invalid IP/subnet combination is a network issue. Compare the approved real network settings rather than copying an example address. |
These are summaries of selected messages, without invented numeric codes. Recovery mode concerns an error during firmware updating; use exact official recovery guidance/support rather than treating it as an ordinary paper/driver fault. No automatic firmware update or pad reset is prescribed here.
Clean for a poor pattern and respect the retry limit
Cleaning consumes ink. It is unavailable with an expended cartridge and may be unavailable at low ink. Follow Head Cleaning and completion prompts; never switch off during a cleaning cycle. Recheck with Nozzle Check afterward. After up to two cleanings without improvement, switch off and wait at least six hours before rechecking/cleaning as needed. Contact Epson if quality remains poor.

Check router Wi-Fi versus the actual Direct mode
The guide distinguishes Wi-Fi Direct AP mode (up to four devices) from one-to-one peer-to-peer mode with a capable device. Check Home → Wi-Fi Setup → Wi-Fi Direct and use the printer’s current displayed SSID/credentials. Changing the password disconnects connected devices, so check shared use first. Do not apply a 5-GHz-only connection, copied default credentials or another model’s simultaneous-connection rules.
