Distinguish Zenius, Zenius 2 and card stock

ItemCheck
ZeniusA single-sided card printer. The official product page announces its replacement by Zenius 2 and links existing Zenius support. Keep their files, settings and feeder specifications separate.
Existing-product supportThe checked support page marks End of life and lists 30 November 2036 for consumables/technical support, and 30 November 2031 for parts/repair. Check regional service availability and terms with the supplier.
CR80 / ISO 7810Card thickness is 0.25–0.76mm with a 0.76mm factory setting. Feeder/output capacity is 50/20 cards at 0.76mm. Match the gauge to the actual card.

Zenius official brochure

Observed Windows, Mac and Linux files

ItemCheck
WindowsSetup_Evolis_Premium_Suite-6.36.0.1749.exe — 6.36.0.1749, 44.1MB, listed 2026/06. This is the Zenius Premium Suite 1 entry, not proof of a Zenius 2 Suite 2 or ARM installation.
macOSEvolis Printer Driver version 6.8.1.190.pkg — 6.8.1.190, 4.2MB, listed 2022/07. Its presence does not verify that this particular package works on a current macOS/Apple Silicon system.
LinuxThe exact Zenius list includes Ubuntu_evolis-premium-suite-2_9.3.0.33546-1_amd64.tar.gz (135.9MB) and _arm64.tar.gz (136.2MB), version 9.3.0.33546, 2026/06. Review the separate installation notice. Filename targets are not runtime test results.

Listings checked 24 October 2026. The accompanying Drivers Compatibility Chart has an internal update date of 28 October 2026, later than this review, so it was not used to certify present-day support. Confirm OS/CPU requirements for the actual selected package. No installers, firmware, licence acceptance or physical printing were performed.

USB, Expert Ethernet and fitted options

ItemCheck
USBThe manual instructs completing driver installation before connecting USB data. Distinguish the standard USB connector from the optional additional USB connector.
Ethernet / ExpertThe brochure specifies Ethernet for Expert; the rear-panel manual labels it optional. Confirm the actual port/version before comparing network settings.
Wi-Fi / encodingA shared network chapter mentioning Wi-Fi does not establish built-in Wi-Fi on your Zenius. Encoding also depends on fitted options; module/side-panel work requires the applicable supplier procedure.

Four card and ribbon preparation checks

  1. Prepare flat, clean recommended cards. Avoid damaged, folded, embossed or dropped cards and touching the print surface.
  2. Match stock thickness to the gauge. Separate sticking cards and load evenly; the 50-card capacity is specified for 0.76mm cards.
  3. Fit the ribbon cassette as illustrated and close the cover. Zenius identifies the ribbon automatically; do not transplant a different model’s separate ID-chip procedure.
  4. Manual feeding must be configured in Evolis Print Center before starting the job and inserting a card. Check for a manual-card wait even if cards remain in the automatic feeder.

Technical test-card button sequence

  1. Allow all printing jobs to finish.
  2. Check that cards and ribbon are loaded.
  3. Hold the control button for 4–5 seconds, until its light goes out.
  4. Press the button again and keep holding it.
  5. Watch for the button light to come on.
  6. Release the button when its light starts flashing.
  7. The technical card prints in colour or monochrome according to the fitted ribbon.
  8. Check that the printed test card reaches the output hopper.
ItemCheck
Technical test cardAvailable from the button sequence or Evolis Print Center. It reports firmware, cleaning and head information; it does not establish the whole PC/app print path.
Graphical test cardStarted only in Evolis Print Center. With cards/ribbon loaded, select System information → Test cards → Graphical test card to compare monochrome quality, offsets and ribbon synchronization.
Installed versionsOpen the exact printer’s Properties in Evolis Print Center and inspect System details. Do not read an illustrative legacy screenshot as today’s package version.

Compare PC output and graphical tests

  1. Common PC check: compare the selected Zenius queue with the actual USB or Expert LAN route.
  2. Common PC check: compare card orientation and artwork boundaries with the print margins.
  3. Common PC check: if a technical card succeeds but app output fails, compare the graphical test, one small job and the queue. Resolve any device warning on its own terms first.

Zenius card-printing troubleshooting

Nine indicator combinations

Record indicator names and steady/flashing states together. Shared patterns cover several causes; no numeric codes or single-cause diagnosis are inferred. These combinations follow manual pages 31–33.

ItemCheck
Button steady; other indicators offReady to receive data; not proof of successful PC driver installation.
Button flashing; other indicators offProcessing data. Distinguish this from the combination with a flashing Printer indicator below.
Cards/ribbon steady; button steadyShared warning for empty/misfed cards or missing, exhausted, misfitted, torn or unrecognized ribbon. Inspect both supplies.
Printer steady; button steadyShared indication for open cover, card jam or mechanism fault. Check closure/jam; seek service if it persists.
Cleaning flashing; button steadyRoutine or advanced-cleaning alert; the table includes routine cleaning after 1,000 cards. Confirm the required cleaning type using Print Center and the manual.
Cleaning steady; button steadyThe manual’s cleaning warning after 1,200 cards. Follow its routine-cleaning section; distinguish it from the flashing alert.
Printer flashing; button steadyCooling mode; printing resumes after the operating temperature recovers.
Printer and button flashingFirmware-update state. Do not treat it as an ordinary failed print and interrupt it with a power cycle.
Cards/ribbon flashing; button steadyWaiting for a card to be inserted or removed at the manual feeder. Compare feed mode and actual card position.

Card jam/mechanism faultUse the Zenius jam procedure: turning power off cancels pending jobs. Check details

Distinguish jams, quality faults and cleaning

For a jam, consult page 38 first: this procedure instructs keeping power on. Open the cover, remove ribbon and use the control button to operate transport rollers; follow the official directions if manual movement is needed. Refit ribbon and close the cover. For recurrence, compare card thickness, flatness and sticking, then seek supplier help.

Keep maintenance unplugging instructions separate from that jam procedure. Blemishes, white lines and blur can involve stock, ribbon, cleaning or the head. Use the manual’s applicable routine/advanced cleaning tools and process; seek service for suspected damage.
