G500 official product and downloads
Open the exact G500/G530 product page for its User manual, and use the separate official Driver list below for software. Select the actual G500 and fitted interface; G530 is the 300 dpi sibling.
G500 resolution and fitted port variants
G500 uses thermal transfer or direct thermal printing at 203 dpi, with a 108 mm print width. The media-width limit is a different measure. Rev 2.5 lists G500-U with USB Device, G500-US with USB plus serial, and G500/G500-UES with USB, serial and Ethernet. The product page also describes an alternate USB/parallel combination. Compare the actual rear ports; do not assume every unit has every interface. A shared WiFi/BT dongle download does not establish built-in wireless. Cutter and dispenser are optional.
Windows, CUPS and design-software roles
| Role | Observed scope |
|---|---|
| Windows | Shared list: GoDEX 12.4.0 for Win 7/8/10/11 and Server 2008/12/16/19/22. The title does not identify CPU architecture. |
| Linux | Shared list: CUPS Printer Driver 1.1.15, labelled for Linux. Exact G500 distribution/CPU coverage has not been verified from the payload. |
| Mac | Shared list: CUPS Printer Driver 1.1.15 for macOS. A listing is not proof of current macOS or Apple Silicon execution. |
Observed 19 October 2026. Official shared Driver list. The exact manual illustrates a Godex G500 driver wizard; its USB005/USB008-style port values are examples. GoLabel/GoLabel II label design software and firmware serve different roles. No installer, licence acceptance, binary signature or runtime test was performed.
Actual host connection and port
The manual’s physical connection sequence starts with the printer off: connect its specified power supply and the fitted USB/parallel cable, then switch on. Follow the selected package’s installation prompts. Check that the detected model is Godex G500 and keep the actual assigned port. Common host check: for an Ethernet-equipped unit, compare the self-test’s current IP with the queue; do not copy the report’s example addresses or overwrite a working network configuration.
Labels, ribbon and sensor position
Match direct thermal stock with direct thermal mode, or suitable ribbon and labels with thermal transfer mode. Blank feeding can come from media orientation, unsuitable stock or ribbon loading. Pass labels through the guides to the tear-off plate, set the guides to their width and close the print mechanism. For punched tags, position the sensor beneath the hole; the guide specifies at least 3 mm hole diameter. Appendix media width is 25.4–118 mm, while G500 print width is 108 mm.

FEED movement is separate from an image test
With power already on, FEED advances one die-cut label. For continuous stock it feeds until the button is released. This movement does not prove that an image printed. A wrong stop position leads to the documented calibration below.
Media-height calibration followed by self-test
Calibration stores the measured label height and then prints a self-test; it changes the saved media setting. Load the intended stock, switch off, and power on while holding FEED. Release FEED when READY flashes red and STATUS lights orange. After measuring, the printer prints its report. Compare the model, media values and actual fitted-interface settings with the host job. This is separate from an ordinary FEED press, and is not a factory-reset instruction.
G500 label errors and causes
Eight selected indicator groups
| Group | Indication and next check |
|---|---|
| Ready | READY green; STATUS and beep are X/unspecified in the overview. The printer is ready. |
| Mechanism open | STATUS flashing red, 2 × 4 beeps: reopen and close the print mechanism correctly. |
| Head hot | READY and STATUS solid red, no beep: wait for cooling and standby. |
| Ribbon / mode | STATUS flashing red, 2 × 3 beeps: compare missing/finished ribbon with the actual direct-thermal or transfer mode. |
| Media / feed | STATUS flashing red, 2 × 2 beeps: paper absent/finished or sensing/feed failure share this group. |
| File System full | Same STATUS red-flash / 2 × 2 group; inspect stored data before changing or removing it. |
| File Name Not found | Same group; compare the referenced file and exact stored name. |
| Duplicate Name | Same group; a stored file name already exists. Use an appropriate distinct name. |
Eight cause checks
| Symptom | Check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Only host jobs fail | Common host check: compare exact model, OS/CPU requirements, queue and fitted port. | Next check → |
| Labels move but stay blank | Check printable face, stock type, thermal mode and ribbon. | Next check → |
| Labels skip / stop wrong | Check loaded stock and sensor, then the height-storing calibration. | Next check → |
| Red + 2 × 4 beeps | Close the print mechanism and compare both LEDs. | Next check → |
| Two red lights, no beep | Wait for head cooling; repeated trouble needs service. | Next check → |
| 2 × 2 has several causes | Read media and printed file messages; do not infer one cause from the beeps. | Next check → |
| Network-equipped job fails | Compare the actual queue port and current report, not sample settings. | Next check → |
| Partly faint / missing image | Check residue, ribbon wrinkles and a device test before a host change. | Next check → |
File messages share a media beep group
The three printed file messages share the media beep group. Keep the exact message and stored-file names. Full memory is not a reason to automatically erase a library or reset the device. The manual’s file-list command is a diagnostic reference, not something executed by this guide.
Hot head, cleaning and persistent defects
The manual directs weekly head cleaning: switch off, open the mechanism, remove ribbon, and use a soft lint-free alcohol-dampened cloth on the head. Keep hard particles away. A hot-head alert first needs cooling. Do not turn head-pressure screws as a general driver fix; unresolved defects and unlisted faults need the dealer. Optional cutter troubleshooting is a separate hardware branch.

Official sources and verification scope
Checked 19 October 2026 against the exact 49-page G500 Series guide, Rev 2.5 dated 2026-10-01. Fifteen selected complete PDF pages and two official web screens were reviewed. Page numbers equal PDF positions. The product page and new manual differ on speed; no fixed speed is promised here. READY/STATUS symbols follow the manual’s own legend; unspecified cells are not assumed off. No numeric error codes were invented, and no printing, calibration, cleaning, installation or firmware action was performed.
