Open Drivers on the official 485TC product page for Windows Print Driver or Linux CUPS Driver. X85 USB CDC is the Windows 7 virtual-COM connection item, with a different role from the print driver.

Separate print drivers, USB connection and language

CheckCheck and next step
Current listingWindows printing and Linux CUPS are listed. The listing does not establish a full current OS/CPU/version matrix; Windows 11, ARM and macOS runtime are unverified. Confirm your OS and CPU with support.
USB CDC / HIDThe CDC item says WINDOWS 7 ONLY. The 2018 manual’s HID discussion (3-4/3-34) concerns Windows’ built-in HID connection, not exemption from an application print driver. Do not substitute the X38 FTDI package.
Mode / modelThe 2024 quick start p.2 describes IMAGE for Windows applications and requires the driver model, dpi and cutter to match the device. Match FGL/LDS2 to the ticket software’s output language.
Historical guideThe 2017 Qualsoft cover’s 2.0.0.65 and Windows 7/8.1/10 text describe that document. The current ZIP’s README and bundled guide are distinguished below. The executable’s actual version, digital signature and installation runtime remain unverified.

Official ZIP: USB order, L2 condition and bundled guide

On 3 November 2026 the ZIP linked by Windows Print Driver on the official 485TC page was inspected read-only. First distinguish USB preparation and driver variant.

ItemActual files and scope
Actual ZIP scopeREADME FIRST names 485TC, 485T and 485TM. The three files are a README, driver-guide PDF and installer EXE. This article applies the evidence to 485TC.
Guide / filenameThe README names Setup-2.0.0.98.exe. The bundled cover says 14 Oct 2020 / 2.0.0.90; the separate public Qualsoft guide says 27 Nov 2017 / 2.0.0.65. A filename does not verify the executable’s internal version or release date.
Prepare USB firstThe README sequence is for USB-connected printers: connect/power on, wait until the Microsoft USB driver is fully installed and ready, then proceed with print-driver setup. Bundled guide p.3 identifies Microsoft’s virtual serial port for X85.
IMAGE / LDS2The README specifies IMAGE for the Windows driver, or LDS2 when using the L2 version of the drivers. This does not mean switching every Windows job to LDS2. Compare the actual driver variant and application output language.
2020 OS scopeBundled guide p.3 describes Windows 10 with limited support for earlier Windows; p.5 retains Windows 7/8.1/10 installation text. Distinguish these scopes rather than treating them as Windows 11, ARM or present-day support verification.
USB device / queueOn bundled guide p.9, the Microcom device under Unspecified is the USB connection object; print settings belong to the installed printer model. The 438/COM1 examples on pp.7/9 are not recommended 485TC model/port values.

No executable, installer, firmware or device changes were run. Reading the archive/guide does not verify OS/CPU, signature trust or physical output. Keep Windows 7 USB CDC, Linux CUPS and existing FGL diagnostics distinct.

Identify the 485TC and fitted connection

CheckCheck and next step
Exact device485TC is direct thermal, with 203/300dpi configurations. Keep it distinct from 485T/485TM and ribbon-based thermal-transfer devices. Check the rear model label and fitted cutter.
Current port scopeThe current product lists USB/Ethernet as standard and serial/Bluetooth/Wi-Fi as optional. The 2024 rear-panel diagram also labels serial as optional; inspect the actual fitted ports.
Serial cableFor fitted serial hardware, manual 3-2/3-3 describes DCE and a straight-through cable, explicitly without a NULL modem requirement. Match the fitted connector, baud and flow control to the PC.
HOST USBSeparate HOST USB from the PC data USB port. Manual section 3.5 and the quick start describe code updates and fitted wireless dongles. The socket alone does not establish installed wireless capability.

Stock loading, alignment and sensing

CheckCheck and next step
Loading guidesQuick start p.1: loosen the green thumbscrew, adjust the guides to the stock and retighten. Insert stock between the guides; detection triggers automatic feed/alignment. Confirm STATUS: READY.
Stock / optionsThe current standard width range is 1.5–4.375 inches (38.1–111mm). Check fitted options and stock requirements for 1-inch wristbands, RFID and cutting; do not apply option specifications to every unit.
PAPER / MEDIAQuick start p.2 assigns stock size to PAPER and sensor type/location to MEDIA. Manual 3-25/3-26 explains Continuous ignoring marks, Blackline using reflection and Diecut/Blowhole using transmission.

Mode-specific information and test tickets

  1. Identify the actual 485TC, dpi, cutter and current IMAGE/FGL/LDS2 mode.
  2. Load suitable thermal stock and confirm READY. These tests consume stock.
  3. Use the mode-specific control below to print device information; distinguish the power-on diagnostic.
  4. Compare printed model/port/settings with the PC job. If device output also fails, start with media and status checks.
CheckCheck and next step
IMAGE / LDS2Quick start p.2: press the touchscreen, then press and hold it to print configuration information. It acts as one large button. The document gives no timing in seconds.
FGLQuick start p.2 uses PRINT to generate a test ticket. Keep this separate from the IMAGE/LDS2 sequence.
2018 power-on diagnosticManual 3-9 describes a power-on/Print diagnostic temporarily using factory parameters and returning to the saved configuration after restart. This differs from everyday touchscreen information output and a permanent reset.

Current display, Windows status and older indicators

CheckCheck and next step
STATUS: READYThe 2024 quick start checks this ready state after stock aligns. For a failed PC job, next compare connection, output language and selected driver.
STATUS: STOCK OUTThis appears during the quick start’s wireless setup with no stock loaded. Distinguish it from printing readiness and check loading/detection.
PRINTER_STATUS_OFFLINEThe Windows status on manual 3-32 covers power-off or inability to communicate. A queue’s OFFLINE status alone does not identify a hardware failure.
PRINTER_STATUS_PAPER_PROBLEMIn that historical table this means an optional INPUT 1 sensor is active. It is not a universal 485TC jam diagnosis or LCD fault code.

The four rows below concern the physical Print button/status light illustrated on 2018 manual 3-7/3-8. Do not interpret every 2024 touchscreen indication using these colors.

CheckCheck and next step
Solid greenPowered and ready in the 2018 table 3-4.
Solid redOperation is halted until the error condition clears. Check stock and the actual fault; contact support if it persists.
Solid amberBoot Loader (MCB), with the printer application not running. Report the state to support; do not assume a PC driver reinstall resolves it.
Flashing redThe table lists cutter error, failed memory download or power disturbance. It does not define numbered blink-count codes.

Read the actual network and port

CheckCheck and next step
PRINTER INFOQuick start: use CONFIG MENU, then NEXT to PRINTER INFO and read the actual IP/port. Compare Windows Ports with those values; do not copy another printer’s default address.
DHCP revision differenceThe 2024 guide describes Auto IP beginning 169 after no DHCP assignment within 30 seconds. This differs from 2018 page 3-4’s one-minute/192.168.200.3 text; use the actual PRINTER INFO values.
Optional wireless / serialMatch the COM number actually assigned to fitted Bluetooth with the driver Ports selection (quick start p.2). Keep Wi-Fi and wired addresses separate and check the connection in use.

Printing failure checks by cause

CheckCheck and next step
Device test works, PC job failsCompare IMAGE/FGL/LDS2 with application output and match the 485TC/dpi/cutter selection. For driver causes use this exact model’s downloads
No communicationCheck the connected port/cable, serial flow control and another task occupying the port (manual 5-1). Check fitted connections
Misaligned or advancing stockCompare guides, form size and blackline/gap sensing. Restoring defaults does not automatically match the stock. Check loading and sensors
Vertical gaps in printCheck whether device output repeats the defect and follow the approved head-care guidance on 2018 manual 4-1/4-4. Seek support if it persists. Compare device output
Red / amber indicationIdentify the older status light versus the touchscreen before interpreting it. One color alone does not establish a driver fault. Check status scope
Network queue is offlineCompare the current device IP/port with PC Ports. Do not force an older default or a wireless example address. Read the actual address

Official evidence and revision scope

Checked 2026-11-03. Reviewed 26 relevant whole PDF pages: 22 operator, 2 quick-start and 2 driver-guide pages, rather than all 77 operator pages.

The current product’s up-to-8-in/s figure differs from the 2018 table’s up-to-10-in/s figure. Confirm the actual configuration/firmware rather than merging specifications and controls. No installer/firmware execution or physical test was performed.
