Rollo Wireless X1040 driver, Wi-Fi lights and label printing fixes

Choose USB or Wi-Fi first, then compare the device test with a computer print job.

X1040 official USB driver route

The exact X1040 USB instructions direct computer users to the manufacturer’s shared Windows/Mac download page below. It also serves the wired Rollo model; use the X1040 instructions, rather than substituting its manual.

Wireless X1040: Wi-Fi, AirPrint and computer USB

The official product page identifies X1040, a direct thermal label printer. It supports Wi-Fi/AirPrint and a USB fallback from a computer. Thermal labels need no ink cartridge.

Initial setup pairs the phone over Bluetooth and then joins Wi-Fi. Bluetooth pairing is a setup step, not the normal print connection. Use the Rollo app and the same main Wi-Fi network as your other devices; avoid guest networks. A solid white wireless light is ready for setup; solid blue means connected.

When a driver is needed

USB support says Windows 4×6-only printing may work without installing Rollo software. Other sizes or failed detection need its driver path. Mac USB can use the offered generic driver; if adding fails, install the official package and select Rollo Thermal Printer under Use → Select Software.

The support articles revised 2026-10-01 explicitly say the Rollo installer does not support ARM-based Windows. Reinstalling it will not fix that limitation. The wireless instructions offer phone printing or generic thermal 4×6 output as alternatives, without guaranteeing every OS version. Android app printing is limited to 4×6; other sizes use Rollo Design web or a computer. Phones/tablets do not print over X1040 USB.

X1040 not printing: compare three stages

Test the printer without a computer job

With labels loaded, hold the top round “r” button until two beeps to print a device test. One beep instead performs label identification. A successful device test narrows a PC failure to its connection, settings or software; it does not prove the driver is faulty. See the model button guide.

Read the current network address

Load 4×6 labels. Hold the separate slim Wi-Fi LED button for 2–3 seconds, then release when green flashes to print the network report. Compare its hostname/IPv4 with the PC printer port. Longer holds select other functions, including reset; this is not the “r” button. Windows discovery fallback adds the current address and matching Rollo driver. Mac can add the IP with AirPrint.

After a router or password change

First confirm that the phone and printer use the new main network. If the old network is retained, X1040 reconnection uses ten rapid presses of the slim Wi-Fi button. This erases the saved network. Wait for white, then run the app setup again. Recheck the address on computers afterward. For Wi-Fi diagnosis, unplug USB so a working wired job cannot mask the fault.

Label LED and wireless LED mean different things

The linked X1040 light chart describes normal status indications. Button-initiated green flashing during a network report is a different context from automatic update flashing. These are colour states, not numeric service codes.

Load and identify the actual labels

Remove old labels, set the purple guides to the new width, close the cover and feed labels from the back with the peel-off face up. Automatic learning follows; hold “r” until one beep to repeat identification. Compare the application’s label size with the loaded stock as a common print-setting check. See label setup.

Cool the head before maintenance

Manufacturer maintenance requires power off, unplugging and cooling before head cleaning. Use an alcohol swab, not water; let it evaporate before closing and powering on. For jams, power off, cool and clear the label path; let cleaned rollers dry. Do not scratch or dismantle the printer.
