WS408TT official driver route
Open the official WS4 support page, then choose Printer Drivers (Windows) or Printer Drivers (Linux and Mac OS). Confirm WS408 / WS4, your OS and the package requirements. The WS4 Setting Tool is a separate utility.
Open official WS408TT / WS4 supportWS408TT: transfer-capable 203dpi label printer
The exact WS408TT is listed on the shared operator-manual cover and in the public setup and quality articles. The WS408 column is 203dpi; WS412 is 300dpi. TT hardware can use direct thermal or thermal transfer, whereas DT is direct thermal only. Match the selected method and supplies to the actual job.
The operator manual distinguishes STD units with USB, Ethernet and RS232C from LAN units without RS232C (printed pp.78–79 / PDF89–90). Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, cutter and dispenser are options. Inspect your back panel and fitted hardware before choosing a queue; the newer family datasheet does not prove every option is installed. Its memory figures differ from the older operator manual, so this guide does not assign a universal memory specification.
Choose the print driver for your OS
| Purpose | Official listing | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Current Windows print driver | 10.6.26 Build28299 · 26 January 2026 | Listed for Windows 11/10 and Server 2025/2022/2019/2016. The page explicitly excludes Windows ARM. |
| Legacy Windows download | Separate Windows 8.1 / Server 2012 R2 block | The legacy block says 64-bit only. Do not use it as the current Windows 11 package or assume ARM support. |
| Linux / Mac CUPS route | Separate Linux CPU packages; Mac OS X x86/x64 | Linux x86/x64, ARMv7/ARMv8, PPC64LE and PPD entries are distinct. The Mac listing does not establish Apple Silicon or all current macOS releases. |
| Settings utility | WS4 Setting Tool on model support page | Configuration software, not a replacement for the print driver. Firmware and label-design software also have different roles. |
Install for the actual connection, then test one label
- Record WS408TT, OS/CPU, USB or network connection and label size. Open the appropriate official print-driver listing above.
- Follow the selected package’s installation instructions. The public setup guide requires the actual USB or network connection type; use the WS408 family rather than a WS412 300dpi queue.
- After the device test works, select the connected SATO queue and use Printer Properties → Print Test Page, as described in the setup guide. Check the real label size first.
A Windows test page exercises the PC route; the FEED configuration label below does not. Driver listing checks here are not an installation test.
Print the configuration label without a PC
Load suitable stock and close the print module. With the printer off, hold FEED while switching it on. The lights pass through orange and green. Release at LED1 orange / LED2 green, then press FEED once. The configuration label records the current settings (printed p.33 / PDF44); the TT example is printed p.35 / PDF46.
Use that label to compare print method, sensor and network settings with your job. This is the self-test selection, not the red/red reset selection. Record settings before changing them.
Eight selected normal and fault-light states
The table uses LED2 first, LED1 second, matching the normal-status table on printed p.10 / PDF21. System-mode selection on p.12 reverses those columns. Compare the numbered LEDs on the TT drawing, not left/right guesses.
| LED2 / LED1 | Meaning | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Green / green, steady | Ready; does not prove the PC queue is connected. | Check |
| Both green, slow together (2s) | Paused. | Check |
| LED2 green / LED1 orange, steady | Head temperature high; allow cooling. | Check |
| LED2 green / LED1 orange, fast (0.5s) | Print module open at power-on. | Check |
| Both orange, steady | Paper jam. | Check |
| Both orange, fast together (0.5s) | Media out / paper end. | Check |
| Both orange, fast at different timing (0.5s) | Ribbon end/error for thermal-transfer models. | Check |
| Both red, steady during printing | Cover / thermal head open. | Check |
Eight symptoms and next checks
| Symptom | Next check | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| No output even from the device test | Start with power, closed module, stock and the recorded lights. Persistent hardware faults need SATO support. | Device test |
| Paper end, skipped labels or wrong start position | Check loading and actual gap/mark stock before choosing the corresponding calibration. | Media sensor |
| Ribbon warning or ribbon follows the label | Check transfer mode, supply/take-up and the TT loading route. A DT-only recipe is unsuitable. | Ribbon path |
| Faint labels, streaks or cooling stops | Compare supplies and the official head/platen cleaning guidance; then assess darkness and speed. | Print quality |
| Open-module indication | Check the latch and trapped stock against the TT loading guide; do not force the cover. | Media loading |
| Device test works; PC jobs fail | Common PC checks: correct WS408 queue, paused/offline jobs and actual port. Driver problems return to this exact guide. | WS408TT drivers |
| USB prints, but a network queue does not | Common network checks: fitted connection, link, same reachable LAN and current printer address. | Connection |
| Only one application clips or shifts labels | Common application checks: 203dpi model, label dimensions, orientation, sensor/method and command language. | Label layout |
Use the TT loading path
Check remaining stock, guides and a fully latched module using the WS4TT media-loading resource on the official support page. Inspect the paper path rather than repeatedly sending PC jobs into a jam. Stop before touching a hot head or forcing the optional cutter; unclear or recurring mechanical faults need support.
Choose the stock sensor before calibration
The public setup guide specifies loaded media, a closed module and power off. Hold FEED while powering on. After the initial orange/green phase, release at LED1 green / LED2 red for transmissive sensing, or LED1 green / LED2 orange for reflective sensing. Press FEED once; 3–4 labels feed before it stops. Choose the branch for the actual gap or I-mark stock. This differs from the configuration-label selection.
Separate the ribbon from the label sensor
Thermal-transfer work needs the appropriate ribbon and stock. Compare both supply and take-up with the WS4TT Ribbon Loading resource. The configuration label shows the saved print method. Record the warning and supplies before changing settings; do not reset the printer to clear an unidentified ribbon problem.
Head, platen and sensor cleaning
The exact-model quality article identifies dirty head/platen, dirty sensor, loading and darkness/speed as checks. Let the head cool, keep water away and avoid bare fingers or hard objects. Follow its TT cleaning illustrations and recommended cleaning liquid; do not invent a household-solvent recipe. With the same supplies, change one setting at a time and compare a short label.
Compare the working port and address
The public setup guide connects Ethernet to a switch/router and checks its indicator. For a failed PC job, compare the actual USB/network queue with the working device test. An optional wireless listing does not prove Wi-Fi is fitted. If using a fitted RS232C port, record its communication settings rather than assuming it is Ethernet.
Keep the label and driver settings consistent
Common application checks: use the installed WS408 queue, actual stock dimensions and the same print method and sensor. Save the device configuration label and a failed application sample for comparison. Avoid deleting saved settings or changing emulation just because one program fails.
