Find the 300 dpi SATO WS412TT driver, calibrate its label sensor with FEED, and distinguish paper jams, empty media and ribbon errors.

SATO WS412TT

Official driver

Look for WS4 (WS408/WS412) on SATO’s Windows driver page. For a printer labeled WS412TT, select the entry for WS412 at 300 dpi. The WS408TT uses 203 dpi.

SATO lists Windows 10 and 11 for this driver and excludes Windows on ARM. The WS4 Setting Tool on the WS4 support page lets you check or change printer settings.

Model and connections

The WS412TT supports thermal transfer with a ribbon and direct thermal printing. Connect a PC USB cable to the rear USB Type-B port. The LAN configuration has Ethernet and USB and may lack RS-232C. If you need a serial connection, compare the actual rear panel with SATO’s port diagram.

Calibrate the media sensor

Use the transmissive sensor for gaps between labels and the reflective sensor for black marks (I-Marks). For I-Mark stock, move the reflective sensor into the path of the marks.

  1. Load the media and close the print module. With the printer off, hold FEED while switching it on.
  2. After both lights pass through orange and green, watch for the next color pair. Release FEED at green LED 1 and red LED 2 for transmissive calibration, or green LED 1 and orange LED 2 for reflective calibration. Two red lights in System Mode select a reset.
  3. Press FEED once to start calibration. It finishes when the printer advances 3–4 labels and stops. SATO’s calibration instructions

Print a configuration label

Load the media and switch the printer off. Hold FEED while switching it back on. Release FEED when LED 1 is orange and LED 2 is green, then press it again to print a configuration label. If Dump Mode causes computer jobs to print as hexadecimal, switch the printer off and back on before retrying the job.

If the configuration label prints but computer jobs fail, check the connection and port, then verify the WS412TT driver and print queue.

Status lights and errors

During normal printing, check whether the two orange lights are steady or flashing.

  • Both lights are steady orange. Check for a paper jam. If the path is clear, check how the stock is loaded and which sensor is selected and calibrated.
  • Both orange lights flash quickly together. Check whether the printer was empty when it received the job or has run out of media.
  • The orange lights flash quickly in alternation. Check whether the thermal transfer ribbon has run out or is loaded incorrectly.
