Find Documax 5380 under Legacy Drivers on Source Technologies’ download page. The MICR, Fastmark and Accel entries above it have different model and OS scopes.

Legacy OS scope and port selection

CheckCheck and next step
Listed OSWindows 98(ME), 2000, XP, Vista and 7. The 32/64-bit label is attached to Windows 7. Listed size: 3,142KB.
Listing limitsThis entry does not establish Windows 8/10/11, Windows on ARM, macOS or Linux support. Another model’s Windows 11 note does not apply. Archive layout and INF declarations are reviewed below; signatures and runtime remain unverified.
Legacy setup / portManual pp.19–20 describe the supplied CD’s OS-specific setup and exact model selection. Setup can default to LPT1 without the proper interface; compare Printer Properties → Ports with the actual USB, Ethernet or serial connection.

Ask official support about the exact OS, CPU, interface and model before choosing a current workflow. Do not carry an old installer’s warning-override instructions into a modern Windows setup.

Actual ZIP/INF, CPU and signature scope

The official linked ZIP was inspected read-only on 3 November 2026: 3,242,119 bytes, with CRC checks passing for all archive members. No executable was run.

ItemActual files and scope
FoldersThe README separates WIN98(WINME) from WIN2000(XP-Vista-Win7). The latter’s 5380.INF is the file reviewed below; the ZIP name alone does not establish every Windows version.
INF versionThat INF declares DriverVer=09/02/2014, 1.2.0.0. This is an INF value, not a claim about every DLL version, a new release date or installation success.
x86NTx86.6.0 model entries and an I386 source folder name Documax 5380. Numeric decorations do not expand the manufacturer’s published OS scope.
x64NTamd64.5.1 entries use X64. AMD64 identifies the x64 target here; it does not establish ARM64 support.
IA64NTIA64.5.1 and IA64 are separate entries. Microsoft documents IA64 for Itanium. This INF has no NTarm64 model section.
CatalogThe INF references CatalogFile=5380.CAT, but the inspected ZIP’s 39 entries (33 files) contain no .CAT file. Catalog trust was not established; this is not a malware verdict.

For an installation or security warning, ask official support for a complete package and exact OS/CPU guidance before following the old README’s override instructions. Archive inspection does not replace installation, digital-signature or Windows 8/10/11 runtime verification.

Documax 5380 identity and interfaces

CheckCheck and next step
TypeRibbon-based 24-pin impact dot matrix, with 80 columns at 10cpi (pp.1, 38). Use ribbon/paper checks for this mechanism.
USB / LANStandard USB and Ethernet are documented. USB uses A at the computer and B at the printer; Ethernet uses RJ-45 (pp.11, 38). These sources do not establish Wi-Fi/Bluetooth.
RS-232CStandard 25-pin serial requires a NULL MODEM cable. Matching connector shape alone does not establish the correct wiring (pp.12, 38).
Parallel optionParallel is optional: inspect the fitted connector first. Power the printer off before attaching/removing interface cables; the serial/parallel instructions also turn the computer off (pp.11–12).

Cut-sheet, tractor and thickness checks

CheckCheck and next step
Cut sheetSet the rear selector upward. Move the front guide fully right, extend the support for long forms and insert the sheet for automatic loading (pp.13–14).
TractorSet the selector downward. Lock the left tractor at ▽ and center the support. Align the holes on both sides, close the covers and set/lock the right tractor so the paper lies flat (pp.15–16).
Gap / ribbonMatch the front-right gap lever to the chart inside the top cover. Page 13 gives single-sheet 0–1 and 2–3-part forms 2 as examples. Keep paper and ribbon installed; let a recently used head cool before handling (pp.5, 13).

Four distinct diagnostic combinations

CheckCheck and next step
ASCIIStart power while holding ONLINE. Another ONLINE press stops output; restart to leave the test mode. This is a device test separate from a PC job (p.32).
Pin testPower on, preload paper, then power off. Start while holding ONLINE + LOAD/EJECT. Without preloaded paper the same combination runs Carriage Seek instead (p.32).
HEXStarting with LOAD/EJECT held prints incoming PC data as hexadecimal. ONLINE stops output; restart exits the mode. The hex columns are data, not an error-code table (p.32).
SettingsWith ribbon fitted, power on holding LOAD/EJECT + LF/FF, release the keys and load a cut sheet. With Ethernet connected, the settings list includes MAC, DHCP, IP, subnet and gateway. Reading this report and changing the menu are separate procedures (p.24).
  1. Wait for any running job to finish, then check paper, ribbon and the feed selector.
  2. Power off, then start while holding ONLINE for the ASCII test.
  3. Press ONLINE again to stop the pattern.
  4. After it stops, restart into normal mode and compare a PC job. If only the device test works, separately check the port, driver and application.

Diagnostic source, p.32

Distinguish indicators from error codes

The three indicator groups below follow manual p.23; no numeric error codes are assigned here.

CheckCheck and next step
ONLINESteady green indicates online. Blinking covers offline OR an error state; it does not identify one specific fault. ONLINE toggles online/offline.
COPYOff means normal mode, steady means Copy 1, blinking means Copy 2. Blinking COPY alone does not establish a paper fault.
SPEEDOff means Letter Quality, steady means High Speed Draft, blinking means Super High Speed Draft. This is a quality/speed selection indicator.

Ethernet addressing and discovery

CheckCheck and next step
Port LEDsThe p.28 table associates yellow on + green blinking with network connection, and both off with no connection. These are Ethernet-port lights, separate from ONLINE.
NetFinderThe manual uses NetFinder on the supplied CD → Search for printers on the same LAN. A separate current utility download/runtime was not verified; ask support if the CD is missing.
DHCP / IPDefault DHCP falls back to 10.0.0.1 / 255.255.255.0 without a DHCP server (p.29). Compare the actual settings report first and ask the administrator about addressing/firewall policy before applying any example values.

Narrow down an output failure

Use the documented checks below to separate causes; a device test alone does not identify a failed component.

Official sources and verification scope

Checked 2026-11-03. A current support site hosting an older manual does not establish modern OS compatibility. Installer runtime and physical print tests were not performed.

Follow pp.5 and 37 on unplugging and cooling before care. Page 5’s case-solvent restriction and p.37’s specific roller treatment concern different parts; do not generalize alcohol use to the whole machine. Refer mechanical/electrical repairs to official support.
