Choose the official 300-series resources
Open official 300 S2 manuals and USB filesIn the Braillo 300 Braille Printer Series section, distinguish the 2024 manual from the separate USB files. Match the device and documentation generation before choosing a method.
USB by OS: the queue choices differ
| Observe | What to check |
|---|---|
| Windows | The 2024 manual, pages 20–21, uses Generic / Text Only after automatic detection, or manual addition of that generic driver if detection fails. |
| Mac / PPD | Pages 21–22 require braillo.ppd from Braillo or its distributor first. Select Generic_/_Text_Only in the USB list, then Use → Other and the supplied PPD. Failed automatic identification is expected in this procedure. |
| Linux | Pages 23–24 recommend Generic → Generic Raw Queue or equivalent raw forwarding. Text-only filtering can remove control characters, add margins or reject jobs. Check availability in the actual distribution. |
The resources page also retains a 2018 Windows 7/10 RNDIS setup PDF and ZIP. Its network-adapter method differs from the 2024 generic USB queue. Confirm the generation with Braillo before applying the old administrator script or fixed-IP procedure.
These documents do not certify each current Windows, macOS, ARM CPU or CUPS release. Obtain the PPD and applicable software through the manufacturer.
300 S2 product and S2.1 documentation
The current product is named 300 S2; its Manual link opens BRAILLO 300 S2.1, Rev. January 2024. This is one 300 S2 guide with an explicit revision check, rather than a separate invented model entry. Match the actual unit before using it, and keep older 300 and other S2 manuals separate.
Compare the device display with the PC job
- Record the exact displayed message. Distinguish a paper/cover pause from General failure.
- Common PC check: compare the actual 300 S2 queue, selected connection, prepared braille file and the queue method for that OS.
- The manual says PC output is held while in Print Test Pattern. If an operator is already using that screen, confirm with that operator that it has returned to normal printing.
Device-specific condition: page 39 warns that Service/diagnostic disables cover safety switches, with rotating parts and possible unexpected starts by other users. Leave that menu to trained personnel; it is not a routine connectivity test.
Eight selected messages: resume states versus faults
These selected messages come from pages 47–49 of the 2024 manual; they are not numeric error codes.
| Observe | What to check |
|---|---|
| Out of paper | Waiting for paper; after paper is detected, the display changes to the resume prompt. See the paper section. |
| Printer cover open | One or more cover panels are open. Correctly restoring them changes the display to the resume prompt. |
| Press continue to resume | After the condition is resolved, Continue resumes from the interruption. This is not a driver fault code. |
| Illegal ESC sequence | An unrecognized ESC sequence, wrong location or invalid parameters in the job. The manual gives OK to continue. Review the source file and queue filtering rather than sending guessed commands. |
| Magnet rack failure | A magnet icon accompanies a detected defective magnet. Without that icon, rack/board communication or a rack power fuse is among the possibilities. Record the display for service. |
| Beam wheel failure | Beam-wheel sensor pulses are not registered. Sensor, connection, belt or motor issues are possible; driver reinstallation alone is not an established remedy. |
| Page self adj. failure | A paper-positioning problem during startup or resetting; sensor or stepping-motor checks belong with service. |
| Paper feed failure | During printing, actual paper position differs from the expected position. Stuck paper, a motor or sensors may be involved; distinguish this from simply running out of paper. |
For unrecoverable General failure, the manual says the PC job must be sent again after recovery. That differs from Continue after a paper shortage. Give service the exact message and interruption point before attempting internal repair or repeated fault clearing.
Paper and braille files: check before reinstalling
| Observe | What to check |
|---|---|
| After paper runs out | Reload with tractor width, starting mark and guides aligned as on page 31. For paper exhaustion during a job, the manual preserves the job: reload without resetting, then Continue. |
| Job settings | Page 34 says parameters sent with a PC file override panel defaults for that job, then defaults return. Compare the job file when layout changes recur. |
| ASCII | The ASCII table on page 44 maps received characters to dot patterns. This mapping is distinct from preparing correctly translated and formatted braille; that distinction follows from the documented table function. |
USB, Ethernet, WLAN and a cable-label difference
| Observe | What to check |
|---|---|
| USB | Page 17 labels USB type A, while pages 20–23 describe an A-to-B device cable. Confirm the actual port and hardware generation with Braillo instead of guessing a cable. |
| Ethernet | Page 17 specifies RJ45 Ethernet. Of USB and Ethernet, the input receiving data first is processed; the other can wait until that transmission finishes. |
| WLAN | The current product and 2024 manual document WLAN. This does not establish wireless capability for every older 300 unit or compatibility with every mobile app. |
Follow the matching cause
| Observe | What to check |
|---|---|
| Queue / USB | 300 S2 official files; verify the generation, then compare OS-specific queues. |
| ESC / PPD | Raw Queue / PPD differences and the prepared file. For a driver cause, use this model’s downloads. |
| Cannot resume | Exact display and paper reload conditions. |
| Output waits | Service-test screen and other-interface transmission checks. |
| Layout / dots | Job parameters / character table and the correctly prepared braille file. |
| Device faults | Magnet / beam / feed messages should be recorded for manufacturer service. |
