Choose a connection

Use USB for a direct computer connection, or choose wired LAN or Wi-Fi to connect through your network. The printer uses one network connection at a time. Wi-Fi supports 2.4 and 5 GHz, with bands and channels depending on the region.

Choose a tray for photo paper

Use Top Feed for plain paper and compatible photo paper, including 4 × 6-inch sheets. For compatible thick media between 8 × 10 inches and A3+, load one sheet at a time in the rear Manual Feed tray. Feed plain paper from the top.

For manual feed, insert the sheet in portrait orientation with the printable side facing you. Set the guides against both edges without squeezing the sheet. Register the paper size and type on the LCD. In the Windows driver, match Media Type and Paper Source under Media/Quality to what you loaded. For example, Premium Fine Art Rough requires manual feed. See Canon’s loading diagrams.

Run a nozzle check

If a photo has streaks or missing colors, load a sheet of A4 or Letter plain paper in the top feed. On the printer’s Home screen, select Maintenance → Nozzle Check → Yes.

Choose All A if the pattern has no missing lines. If lines or a color are missing, choose Also B and clean the affected ink group. If the pattern prints but jobs from your computer fail, check the connection in use and then the driver and print queue for this model.

Feed errors 1000 and 1006

  • 1000 · Top feed means the top feed is empty or the paper is out of position. Reload the paper, align the guides, close the feed slot cover, and press OK on the printer.
  • 1006 · Manual feed means the rear manual feed tray is empty or the sheet is out of position. Load one compatible sheet, align the guides and press OK. Wait for printing to finish before inserting the next sheet.

If the paper is already in the other tray, press Stop, match the job’s paper settings and feed source to that tray, and try again.
