CP1500 official driver and OS printing route
Canon’s exact CP1500 support page shows no separate driver in the observed all-OS Drivers tab. The current Japanese specification explicitly uses Mopria for Windows and AirPrint for Mac, without dedicated OS driver downloads. Use the official model support and the setup routes below.
Open official CP1500 supportPhoto dye-sublimation, not office inkjet printing
The exact manual specifies dye-sublimation thermal transfer at 300×300dpi, with a dedicated ink cassette, matching paper and a 3.5-inch colour screen. USB2.0 Type-C transfers data; USB charging/power supply is not provided. Use the designated power adapter or an applicable optional battery.
Wi-Fi is IEEE802.11b/g on 2.4GHz; the manual explicitly excludes 5GHz. Computer printing via a router, direct smartphone connection and SELPHY Photo Layout connection are distinct modes. The current English HTML edition CT2-D202-G is scoped to firmware1.0.6.0 or later. Check your actual firmware and regional documentation before applying its menus.
Four printing routes
| Route | Official method | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Windows USB / Wi-Fi | Mopria-based OS printing; add Canon SELPHY CP1500 | Japan lists Windows10 22H2+ and Windows11, with CP1500 firmware1.0.1.0+; the current manual also specifies 22H2 for Windows10. This is vendor information, not a current OS-lifecycle or Windows ARM guarantee. |
| Mac USB / Wi-Fi | AirPrint; add Canon SELPHY CP1500 | Japan specifies AirPrint and recommends an up-to-date OS. Follow the actual Printers & Scanners UI; the manual’s older System Preferences labels may differ. No installation test was performed. |
| Smartphone | SELPHY Photo Layout or a supported wireless print route | Select the mode that the app uses. A phone app is separate from installing a desktop print driver; keep its current device/OS requirements in view. |
| Memory card / flash drive | Device-only printing of supported images | SD/SDHC/SDXC; smaller cards require adapters. Exif JPEG is documented. USB flash storage is FAT/exFAT; insert no card while using a flash drive. |
Add the exact printer through the operating system
- Confirm CP1500, OS/CPU and actual connection. Remove memory cards/USB flash drives for PC printing, and load a matching paper/ink set.
- For USB, use a data cable with Type-C at SELPHY, no longer than 2.5m, directly to the computer. A charging-only cable or USB hub is not the documented route.
- For Wi-Fi, connect the computer and SELPHY to the same router. In Windows or Mac Printers & Scanners, add Canon SELPHY CP1500; choose it in the photo application and match the paper size, orientation and copies.
Driver/queue errors still need OS-integrated printing checks. Do not substitute CP1300 software or a firmware updater for a missing CP1500 print driver. Exact Windows ARM/Linux compatibility and actual hardware installation were not verified.
Print one photo directly from a memory card
- Prepare matching ink/paper and a compatible card containing a supported Exif JPEG. Insert the card in the documented orientation; the Select & Print screen appears.
- Select one image with the arrow buttons, open its single-image view with OK and set one copy. Press OK for Preview, then OK to start printing.
- Wait until the photo is fully ejected onto the cassette. Paper moves out of and back into the rear during printing; do not pull it mid-pass.
This is a normal photo print that uses paper and ink, not a hidden self-test or factory reset. If it succeeds and a PC job fails, narrow the next check to the connection, queue and OS printing route.
Six screen conditions and responses
| Screen / condition | Response | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Startup / no power | Hold Power until the Canon startup screen appears; check adapter or charged battery. | Check |
| Router name / antenna with red × | The computer-printing guide expects the same router and no red × on the antenna. | Check |
| Ink exhausted message | Replace with the matching new ink cassette; the documented replacement keeps power on. | Check |
| Paper exhausted message | Remove the cassette, add matching paper and reinsert; the documented refill keeps power on. | Check |
| Printing temporarily pauses with heat | Wait for cooling and keep the rear vents clear. This may be normal thermal protection. | Check |
| Other displayed error | Follow the actual message’s tips and check the sending device too; persistent errors need support. | Check |
Nine symptoms and next checks
| Symptom | Next check | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| No output from the card or PC | Check power, screen and a matching paper/ink set before changing computer software. | Device photo test |
| Paper / ink / cassette sizes differ | Use the matching SELPHY set; ordinary inkjet photo paper is not the documented stock. | Matched supplies |
| Repeated feeds / paper jam | Keep at most18 sheets, clear accumulated prints and follow the gentle removal route. | Paper jam |
| Card or flash images missing | Check adapter, card insertion, Exif JPEG and FAT/exFAT storage; edited/oversized images may fail. | Image format |
| Card print works; driver unavailable on PC | Check the exact queue and the Mopria/AirPrint OS-integrated setup. | CP1500 driver route |
| USB printing fails after sleep | Use the direct data cable; wake without disconnecting USB, then restart the PC if recovery fails. | USB / sleep |
| Wi-Fi connects but will not print | Match router/mode, 2.4GHz and permitted device communication; remove inserted storage. | Wi-Fi mode |
| Output pauses during repeated prints | Check temperature and clear vents, then wait for cooling. | Heat / quality |
| Photo cropped, reduced or banded | Match paper/layout and compare clean ink/paper, condensation and one device photo. | Layout / quality |
Matching cassette, glossy side up, at most18 sheets
The paper guide opens the outer cover and then the inner cover. Remove protective sheets, load up to18 matching sheets with the glossy side up, close the inner cover and leave the outer cover open. For postcard paper, remove the L-size adapter if fitted; its regional inclusion varies. Do not touch the glossy surface, reuse printed sheets or separate perforations before printing.
The ink cassette size must match the paper size. Do not reuse ink cassettes or touch the ink sheet. The guide has an illustrated tightening procedure for a loose ink sheet; use that exact cassette drawing instead of winding it blindly.
Normal multi-pass motion versus a jam
Paper moving backwards and forwards during a photo print is expected. Keep its path free and wait for complete ejection. For an actual jam, the manual gently removes protruding paper; if it resists, do not force it. Follow its power-off/on ejection procedure and wait. A jam that remains requires Canon support; do not disassemble the printer.
Same router and the selected connection mode
Computer printing uses Wi-Fi settings → Connection Settings → Other → Via Wireless Router. Choose the actual router and its correct password; confirm the router name on the Home screen. A direct smartphone connection is a different mode. Check 2.4GHz, distance and interference, remove inserted storage and allow an existing job to finish.
The manual checks whether the router permits device communication. As a common network check, compare guest-network isolation with the intended local printer path. Do not disable router security or copy the manual’s legacy WEP/no-security examples as a fix. OS network discovery is a separate check for the intended trusted network.
Power, USB and sleep recovery
The USB-C port supplies no power/charging; check the actual power adapter first. Use a direct data connection, remove cards/flash drives and select the CP1500 queue. The manual avoids computer sleep while USB-connected: wake without unplugging the cable; if it does not recover, restart the computer. As common queue checks, compare paused/failed jobs and send one small test.
Photo format, dimensions and layout
Exif JPEG is the documented format; edited images or a long edge over35000 pixels may not display or print correctly. An adapter is mandatory for smaller cards. For flash storage use FAT/exFAT. Match print size to the installed cassette. The Mac table lists L89×119mm, PPostcard and C54×86mm; do not confuse the paper’s unseparated dimensions with the final photo size.
If one image prints small in one position, the manual checks Page Layout/1-up. Application settings can govern external-device prints. Compare crop/border/layout in the actual sending program and use a simple card print to separate its settings from a physical problem.
Cooling, dust and condensation
Repeated prints or blocked rear vents can trigger a temporary cooling pause. Wait and keep the vents clear. For banding/poor quality, check ink sheet/paper dust, condensation and the printer’s documented handling guidance. Monitor colour and printed colour need not match exactly; avoid promising that a driver reinstall will fix colour differences.
Keep the actual message
Read the displayed error and any troubleshooting tip, and check the phone/computer too. This source does not establish a complete numeric service-code table or unique LED timing meanings. Keep the message, photo result, paper/ink sizes, OS, firmware and connection for support.
Official evidence and limits
Official sources checked2026-10-13: exact Asia support, current Japan specification and15 English HTML topics including CT2-D202-G/copyright2025. The new manual’s firmware1.0.6.0+ scope differs from Japan’s Windows minimum1.0.1.0; no firmware was downloaded/run. Nine causes and six screen conditions are selected useful checks, not an exhaustive service manual. Regional supplies/menus and OS/CPU limits still need the actual unit’s documentation.
