Official driver downloads
For ordinary PC printing, choose CMP-30II Windows Driver in Citizen’s model download list. The entry lists Windows 11, 10 and 8, plus Windows Server 2019, 2016 and 2012. The row does not specify CPU architecture. Check the package requirements before using it on an ARM PC.
The same list has CUPS entries for macOS and Linux. If your POS software calls for OPOS, check the separate requirements for the CMP-20II/30II/40L OPOS Driver. The Android and iOS SDKs are for app development.

- USB and serial. Use the printer’s Mini-B USB port or RS-232C serial port. Use Citizen’s specified serial cable. Connecting to a powered USB host can switch the printer on automatically.
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Check the model on the printer. The CMP-30IIBT has Bluetooth 4.2. The CMP-30IIWF has 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi and is offered in certain markets.
- Switching connections. If more than one interface tries to send data, the printer uses whichever receives data first. A different interface can communicate after 20 seconds without incoming data. Let the job on the first connection finish before trying another.
Load a thermal paper roll
- Press the blue paper cover release and lift the cover. Put in the roll in the direction shown in the loading diagram.
- Leave a short length of paper outside the cover before closing it. Press FEED to check that paper advances.
- For 58 mm paper, follow the 58 mm partition fitting instructions. The manual rules out 2-inch rolls.
Print a self-test
- Hold Power for about three seconds to switch off the printer. Hold FEED, then press Power. Hold both buttons until the buzzer sounds. The printer produces its own test printout.
- Leave FEED alone for three seconds after the printout finishes. Pressing it within that window enters HEX-DUMP, which prints received data in hexadecimal. Turn the printer off to exit that mode.
- If the self-test works and only computer printing fails, check the connection and port, then check the CMP-30II driver entry.
Error light and interrupted printing
- Red Error LED stays on. Check for an empty roll, an open cover, or a media detection problem. Make sure the roll is loaded, leave its leading edge outside, and close the cover. If labels or black-mark stock still cause errors, check that the sensor setting matches the media. See section 3.10 for calibration.
- The printer switches off mid-job. A very low battery can cause shutdown during dense printing. Recharge the battery with Citizen’s specified charger, then try a self-test. The printer needs its battery installed to print.
- The Power LED flashes in wireless use. A slow flash indicates a wireless connection. A fast flash indicates data reception. With SoftAP enabled on the Wi-Fi model, the Power LED keeps flashing.
