Official CT-S4500 software choices
The official page selects CT-S4500. Compare the software role and the actual host OS/CPU before choosing a file. Review the manufacturer download terms yourself; a utility, SDK or compression component has a different purpose from a normal print driver.
CT-S4500 is a 203 dpi direct-thermal receipt, ticket and label printer, with media up to 112 mm and a maximum 104 mm print area. Confirm the model and fitted interface board; the serial example is not every unit. Manual pp.16–17
Choose the software role
| Part | Scope |
|---|---|
| Win print / label | The selected list shows Windows Driver and Windows Label Driver v3.6.1.0, labelled Windows 10 / 11 and Server 2016 / 2019. The separate older Install Guide labels do not extend this driver’s OS support. |
| A4 scale | The separate Compression Driver scales larger layouts for wide POS output. It is listed for Windows 10 / 11 and Server 2016 / 2019; do not substitute it blindly for the ordinary receipt or label workflow. |
| CUPS | macOS and Linux CUPS entries are both labelled v1.2.8. The list gives broad Mac OS/Linux labels; exact current versions, CPU architectures and host printing remain unverified. |
| POS / virtual COM | OPOS 1.14.1.9 and JAVA POS 1.14.0.5E target application integration. A separate VCOM entry is not required by every USB application. Match the POS program and fitted connection. |
| Utility / SDK | POS Printer Utility 2.10.0.0 and Windows/Linux/Android/iOS SDKs serve settings or application development. Their presence does not establish AirPrint, a phone print driver or ARM support for every package. |
Inspect the fitted connection
| Port | Check |
|---|---|
| PC USB | The documented data interface is USB 2.0 Full-Speed. Use the computer communication socket, with power off while cabling. Use one host interface; do not connect both main-unit and board-side USB paths. p.29 |
| Extra board | NN is USB; RS adds serial, ET adds Ethernet, HET adds Ethernet/USB-host, BT/HBT add Bluetooth variants, WX adds wireless LAN/Ethernet. Inspect the real suffix/board and regional availability. p.16 |
| Power / host / DK | The USB power port supplies up to 2.1 A; an optional USB-host port controls peripherals. Neither replaces the PC data port. The DK cash-drawer socket is separate from data connections. pp.21,33,44–46 |
When MSW6-3 enables USB-linked power-off, a lost PC/USB connection causes that state after about 3 seconds and the POWER lamp is unlit. Check the existing configuration; do not enable or disable it as a generic repair. p.24
Receipt and label widths differ
| Media | Check |
|---|---|
| Receipt roll | Use the specified thermal receipt media; the manual advises at least 80 mm width. The p.73 drawings show 80 / 82.5 / 112 mm rolls. The broad 58–112 mm product range does not mean 58 mm receipt stock. pp.51,73 |
| Gap labels | Backing width 58–112 mm and gap 4–30 mm are specified. Cut in the gap through backing only, not adhesive label faces; full-surface label media is excluded. Recalibrate when backing type changes. pp.74–75 |
| Width / wear | Below 112 mm, match the powered-off partition and configured print area. Long use with narrow media can impair later wide-media feeding/printing. Do not move a locked adjustment or treat roll width as print width. pp.50–51 |
Paper type and sensor alignment
Select thermal roll, black-mark or label-gap paper consistently with the real media and stored settings. Gap sensing requires aligned upper/lower sensors; reflective sensing follows the actual black mark. Label/mark calibration follows paper-type selection. These are configuration changes, so retain existing settings and use the exact diagrams with the operator. pp.57–60
CT-S4500 not printing: compare the device first
FEED self-test
Protect incoming POS jobs, load suitable paper and close the cover. Hold FEED while turning power on; keep it held about one second until the buzzer, then release. The self-test prints model, firmware, interface and memory settings. Compare the actual report rather than copying its example values. A successful report and a host application print are different tests. p.65
Eight selected status groups
| State | Context |
|---|---|
| Ready / receiving | Status green steady is online; green flashing is receiving. Amber also appears during startup. These are operating states, not unique fault codes. |
| Near-end | Steady amber near-end means prepare a replacement. Confirm the roll and sensor; distinguish it from startup. |
| Paper-end / cover | Steady red can mean no paper or an open cover while idle. Inspect the actual cause; a buzzer depends on memory settings. |
| Cover during a job | The p.67 text describes red flashing after an accidental opening during printing. Correct the paper/cover; resumption can depend on the stored command setting. |
| Cutter locked | A red pulse pattern is documented. Resolve the actual obstruction using the exact recovery guidance; do not force a lid, blade or another model’s gear. |
| Head cooling | p.67 says red flashing; the p.68 table instead uses amber. Preserve this source discrepancy. Let the head cool; the text says printing resumes automatically. |
| Mark / gap detection | A red pattern is shown. Compare the selected paper type, real mark/gap and aligned sensor; a colour alone does not identify the fault. |
| System / memory / voltage | These have distinct red waveforms in the table. Record the actual pattern and obtain model-specific support; do not invent numeric codes or reset settings. |
Only eight groups are selected here; this is not the complete status table. The two cover-state footnotes on p.68 repeat “standby”; p.67 supplies the clearer idle-versus-printing distinction. No pulse timings or beep counts are inferred. pp.67–68
Eight cause checks
If the table extends beyond the screen, scroll it sideways.
| Symptom | Check | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| No POWER indication | Compare the correct adapter and supply. If USB-linked power-off is enabled, loss of the PC/USB connection can also turn the lamp off. | Guide |
| Self-test works, host fails | Common host check: exact CT-S4500 queue, selected port, OS/CPU and normal/label/POS driver role. | Guide |
| Paper runs out | Separate near-end preparation from actual end, then compare the real roll and closed cover. | Guide |
| Label / mark not found | Compare media type, aligned sensors and model-specific calibration after a backing change. | Guide |
| Cropped / wrong width | Compare the actual media, partition, configured print area and application layout/compression choice. | Guide |
| HEX columns appear | Check for the documented diagnostic mode before reinstalling software. | Guide |
| Cutter / outlet jam | Keep the outlet clear; use the exact recovery or service for a locked mechanism. | Guide |
| Pause after dense printing | Compare the cooling context and ventilation; retain the manual colour discrepancy. | Guide |
Recognise HEX mode
HEX dump print mode is a diagnostic state. The open-cover power-on/FEED branch differs from normal self-test. After protecting host jobs, p.66 lists three consecutive FEED presses or power-off as exits. This guide does not send reset commands or factory/network defaults. p.66
Evidence for service
Keep clear of the cutter and hot head. p.64 has a specific cutter recovery; use that procedure or the dealer when the cover or blade remains locked. For cleaning, p.63 specifies power-off and head cooling first. Record the fitted board, full LED sequence, paper type, self-test and first failed job, removing private customer/network details before sharing. pp.63–69
