Select your operating system on Epson's U.S. support page. If the application prints through a Windows queue, look for the Advanced Printer Driver (APD). If your POS provider specifies OPOS or JavaPOS, choose that component. TM-T88VI Utility manages printer settings. Match the download to your operating system and your POS provider's instructions.

Identify the USB Type-B and Ethernet ports

Check the label for TM-T88VI. The TM-T88VII, TM-T88VI-i and TM-T88VI-DT2 have separate support entries. A PC USB cable goes into the rear USB Type-B port. The other USB connector is for an optional wireless LAN unit or customer display. Use the diagram on page 19 to tell the Ethernet and drawer sockets apart. Bluetooth is available on a dedicated configuration, and Wi-Fi uses an optional wireless unit.

Load the thermal roll through the top cover

When printing has stopped, open the roll cover and remove the old core. Insert the new roll as shown in the manual, pull out at least 20 mm of paper, then close the cover. Keep your fingers clear of the cutter blade while changing the roll.

Print a status sheet to check network settings

  1. Load paper and turn the printer on. If the Power light is blinking, wait until it stays on.
  2. With the roll cover closed, hold the Status Sheet button for at least three seconds to print Ethernet and Wi-Fi details. If a connector cover is fitted, follow page 46 of the manual to remove it first.
  3. To include Bluetooth details where fitted, leave the printer on, open the roll cover and hold FEED for at least one second before closing the cover. Hold it for at least three seconds on firmware 40.02 or earlier. The printer returns to its normal mode after printing.

If the status sheet prints but POS receipts do not, a general check is to compare its IP address with the address in the POS or Windows print port. For a USB setup, check the physical connection. Use the TM-T88VI driver guide to check the queue or POS component.

Distinguish an empty roll from a cutter error

  • Power, Error and Paper all stay on. The manual shows this combination for an empty roll. Check the paper supply and replace the roll if it has run out.
  • Roll cover open or printhead overheated. Printing can recover automatically after you close the cover or let the printhead cool. Check both conditions before interpreting the Error light.
  • Paper jam or stalled cutter. Turn the printer off, open the roll cover, remove the jam without pulling the paper forcibly and close the cover. Keep clear of the hot printhead. Turn the power back on after clearing the cause. If the fault returns, contact Epson support. If the lights match an unrecoverable pattern in the manual, switch off immediately and arrange service.
