Identify the driver, legacy Mac link and ICC profiles
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| Windows | Spain’s ASK-400 Resources lists V1.0.0.2. Check the regional OS information below. The public manual describes V1.0.0.1; current installation screens may differ. |
| Legacy Mac link | The listing says Mac OS X 10.7/10.8, but the linked filename is ASK-4000_Mac_OS_X_10.7_10.8_PrinterDriver.zip. Confirm this model mismatch with FUJIFILM before installing. It does not establish current macOS or Apple Silicon support. |
| ICC Profiles | These color-management profiles do not replace the print driver that provides the printer queue. |

Check existing output software, region and OS first
FUJIFILM Japan says not to install this driver when other ASK-400 output software is in use. They cannot coexist; an incorrect installation may require reinstalling the other software. Check the supplied system before a routine reinstall.
Japan’s listing names Windows 7/10/11, with Windows 11 limited to 64-bit. UK specifications and the 2021 manual describe Windows 7/10. Do not extend the newer Japanese listing to every regional package or infer ARM64 support. Confirm the supplied region and PC environment.
The linked PDF carries a notice excluding US resale/use. This overseas document is not approval for every region, including Korea or the US; check local supply/support and download terms.

ASK-400 USB connection and PC recognition
ASK-400 is a dye-sublimation thermal-transfer (D2T2) photo printer. UK specifications name USB 2.0 Type B. Do not transfer ASK-4000, ASK-300, ASK-500 or instax interface claims to this model.
As common PC checks, compare the USB cable, direct connection and selected queue. The 2021 manual notes that Windows 10 may hide the icon while the printer is offline, powered off or disconnected. An absent icon alone does not establish an uninstalled driver.

The 2021 manual’s three USB installation stages
- First check whether existing ASK-400 output software permits this driver. The 2021 preparation stage uses printer power off, USB disconnected and an administrator login.
- Install the approved regional/model driver package using its included instructions. The old PDF’s security-dialog screenshots do not establish the safety of every current file.
- After the package stage, connect USB, switch the printer on, finish printer installation and restart the PC. The manual notes that Windows 10 does not display the Windows 7 installation-start notification.

Standard/sticker media and paper/ribbon size
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| Standard / sticker | UK specifications say the printer remembers the first standard/sticker media type loaded and subsequently accepts that type. Confirm stock approved for the supplied unit before purchase. |
| Size / finish | Match the driver paper size to the installed ribbon size. Specification footnotes restrict sticker stock to Glossy and High Quality mode; do not apply standard-stock finish options indiscriminately. |

Eleven status icons in PC Printer Info
These colors belong to icons in the driver’s Printer Info tab. They are not physical LED blink patterns. Media Info reports ribbon-media size, remaining printable sheets and paper type; unsupported stock may suppress media information. This table does not establish numeric error codes.
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| Waiting / green | Ready to print. |
| Printing / blue | Printing is in progress. Avoid submitting the same job again. |
| Door open / yellow | The front door is open; check that it closes correctly. |
| Ribbon end / yellow | Ribbon is exhausted. The manual calls for replacing paper and ribbon together as a set. |
| Paper end / yellow | Paper is exhausted; check paper-and-ribbon set replacement. |
| Offline / gray | The PC cannot recognize the printer; check USB connection and printer power. |
| Cooling head / purple | The head is cooling; printing resumes automatically after cooling. Avoid starting with driver removal. |
| Ribbon error / orange | Check ribbon loading; follow the supplied printer user guide for physical reloading. |
| Paper size setting error / orange | Driver settings and installed ribbon size differ. Compare both sizes. |
| Paper jam / orange | A jam was detected. Use the supplied printer user guide for removal/reloading; do not borrow disassembly steps from another ASK model. |
| System error / red | The manual directs a printer/PC restart and service contact if it persists. Record the job state and retry setting first. |
Print Re-try: automatic recovery versus lost buffer
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| Disable | An error clears printer-buffer data. After resolving it, resend only the unprinted data. The manual specifies this option when the application supplies error recovery. |
| Enable | Buffered data is retained and printing resumes after recovery, including paper initialization when needed. Switching power off loses the data. |
| Errors requiring restart | For the manual’s restart group, including Data error, Cutter error and System error, the buffer is lost regardless of this setting. Follow the error-specific procedure and reconcile unprinted data. This is not a power-cycle-first rule for every fault. |
The manual groups paper/ribbon end, an open cover, jams, ribbon errors and paper-setting errors as recoverable conditions for retry behavior. Use the printer user guide for physical jam/ribbon recovery; changing this setting alone does not remove the cause.

Common job checks to avoid duplicate photos
- Pause new submissions and record completed prints, remaining quantity, status message, Print Re-try and the application’s own recovery behavior.
- After resolving the specific cause, observe whether buffered printing resumes. Saved jobs and application resubmission can otherwise overlap.
- Reconcile unprinted items and send only the required data once. Avoid blindly resending the entire queue, removing the driver or repeatedly interrupting power.
These are common job-accounting checks, not a hardware button self-test or model-specific jam-clearance procedure.
Eight cause checks linked to this model’s driver
| Item | Check / action |
|---|---|
| Installation / PC only | Check existing output software, OS and package before using the exact model driver. Check section |
| Not found / no icon | Check USB/power. The old Windows 10 manual says an offline icon may be absent; absence alone does not prove driver removal. Check section |
| Paper / ribbon end | Check the paper/ribbon set and approved stock type. Check section |
| Size error | Compare driver paper size with ribbon size first. Check section |
| Cooling | For Cooling head, allow automatic recovery. Check section |
| Door / jam / ribbon | Identify the exact message and use the supplied hardware guide. Check section |
| Duplicates / missing prints | Distinguish overlapping recovery from buffer loss after power interruption. Check section |
| Persistent system error | If recovery fails, give the service center the message and job circumstances. Check section |
Official sources and verification scope
Official pages and the exact ASK-400 driver manual were checked on 26 October 2026. The 44-page PDF is dated 20 January 2021, Ver.1.0.0.1; add three to a printed page number to locate its PDF page. Distinguish the current V1.0.0.2 listing. ZIP contents, signatures, installation, physical printing and setting changes were not tested.
