SMART-51S is the single-sided IDP card printer. The manual uses this S model as its base; SMART-51D adds a flipper and SMART-51L a laminator. Start with the exact model label, standard 300 dpi printing and the hardware actually fitted to your unit.
Choose the SMART-51 software
Checked 16 October 2026. The official SMART-51 board lists the following packages. Choose the matching OS and review the current package requirements before installation. The row date is not a reliable release date: the Windows row shows 30 May 2025 while its detail includes a 28 September 2026 update. Listed versions do not establish support for every current OS or CPU.

Fitted interfaces and USB installation
USB Type-B is shown at the rear. The network opening is closed when the option is absent. The exact product page describes Ethernet and Wi-Fi as upgrades; a software network menu does not prove that the unit has either. Check the actual connectors and order. Flipper, laminator and card encoders also depend on the fitted configuration.

Reconnect USB and switch on at the prompted step. This upgrade can affect an existing queue, so record its port and finish authorised jobs first. Use the USB or network route for the actual fitted interface; review the current package’s OS instructions.

Compare device and PC test prints
Wait for System Ready. Use the left LCD button to select Do Test Print, then the right Ok button to start that device test (p16). A five-second right-button hold invokes sleep and is a different action. Compare this print with Windows Printer Properties → General → Print Test Page (p30). A successful device print with a failed PC job narrows the check toward the host queue, port, connection or driver; it does not prove a single cause.

Card thickness, ribbon and cartridge
Use card stock specified for the unit and adjust the thickness lever to the actual cards. The disposable cleaning roller is replaced with a ribbon change; remove its protective film and avoid fingerprints or dust. Seat the cartridge correctly before closing the cover. The SMART-51 ribbon gear is grey and the SMART-50 ribbon itself is incompatible (p15).
