Model and driver source

This guide is for the monochrome laser print-only printer with hi-speed usb; fs-1060dn ethernet and automatic-duplex instructions do not apply model Kyocera ECOSYS FS-1040. The download button opens the official Kyocera support page in this window. The manufacturer’s page is authoritative for the available driver packages and their current compatibility.

Operating-system and download checks

The Korean catalog lists these systems for checking: The actual GX 5.3.2306 listing includes Windows 10 and legacy Windows tags, and its 32-bit/x64 INF files explicitly include FS-1040 GX. Windows 11 and ARM are not established by the global OS menu. OSX 10.12 package 8.3504 and Linux 1.1203 are listed; the Linux 32/64-bit archive contains FS-1040 PPD and rastertokpsl. Its Readme requires CUPS 1.2 or later, which is not a guarantee for every current distribution, architecture or application. Do not infer later macOS or Apple Silicon support.. Select your exact operating system and version on the official page. If your version is not offered, do not install a package intended for a different system.

Connection and installation

  1. Confirm ECOSYS FS-1040, exact OS/architecture, administrator permissions and regional mains rating. Check toner, cassette paper/guides and closed covers; preserve needed queue settings. Use the specified mains cable and a shielded USB-A to USB-B data cable no longer than 5 m.
  2. The official model-specific USB procedure connects the computer and printer, turns power on, then starts the manufacturer installation. Cancel an unsolicited Found New Hardware wizard. Do not impose a generic disconnect-USB-first rule on this model.
  3. When using the official Product Library installer, review licence/language, select the actual FS-1040 and Driver Package in Express Install, finish and print a test page. If discovery fails, check USB/power and Refresh. Custom Install selects the actual device, port and required software. Old Windows 7/CD examples do not override current package compatibility or signing policy.
  4. The downloaded GX ZIP is not the Product Library CD. It contains GXDriver/32bit/XP and newer/OEMSETUP.inf and GXDriver/64bit/XP and newer/OEMSETUP.INF. Extract it and register the matching-architecture INF through the OS driver procedure, selecting Kyocera FS-1040 GX. Do not invent a Setup.exe absent from the archive. Test the actual USB queue and paper settings.
  5. On a supported OS X 10.12 environment, follow the actual manufacturer installer and authentication prompts and check USB recognition. Do not force the old package onto a current Mac or invent an AirPrint queue.
  6. For Linux, review Readme and the correct 32/64-bit and language directory. The provided install.sh places the FS-1040 PPD and rastertokpsl in system paths with administrator permissions; have an administrator inspect the script and environment before applying it. Select the actual USB printer/model in CUPS and test a short document. The script is not a universal compatibility guarantee.
  7. Do not apply FS-1060DN/FS-1061DN network, IP or Ethernet instructions to FS-1040. Computer-side sharing is distinct from built-in networking. Do not install another models KX package as an automatic substitute.

Troubleshooting

For missing output, check mains/power, USB, the actual queue and paused jobs, then resolve paper/cover errors and compare a short file with application paper/orientation settings. Preserve other printer queues. Linux Readme documents GDI-filter limitations in OpenOffice/LibreOffice and complex-PDF issues in some Document Viewer/Okular versions; separate application faults from connection faults. An Attention indicator requires the actual Client Tool/Status Monitor message: Add paper checks feed/size, Cover open checks covers and Add toner checks specified toner. For Memory overflow, consult the documented lower-resolution procedure. Persistent or undocumented faults need official service, not indiscriminate resets or disassembly. Shared-manual duplex instructions do not establish FS-1040 automatic duplex.
