XLP 504 is a label printer using direct thermal or ribbon-based thermal transfer. Confirm XLP 504 on the label, its actual printhead resolution and fitted options. XLP 506, XLP 514 and XLP 604 are separate products; check their own documentation when using those units.
Download NOVEXX XLP 504 drivers
Open NOVEXX’s official driver page, confirm XLP 504 in the supported-printer list, and follow “Click here to find the latest driver versions” to Loftware. Choose the XLP 504 entry matching your printhead. Its labels are 200dpi, 300dpi and 600dpi; the manual describes the first head as 203dpi (8 dots/mm). Confirm the resolution fitted to your unit before choosing a queue.
Choose print software and OS
| Component | Scope |
|---|---|
| Current Windows route | The manufacturer-linked exact XLP 504 200dpi listing shows version 11.1.0, 21 July 2026; declared Windows 8.1/10/11 and Server 2012 R2/2016/2019/2022/2025, with x86/x64/ARM64 labels. These are provider declarations, not proof that every CPU works with every listed OS or that a package was installed. |
| Resolution and version | Select the actual 200/203, 300 or 600dpi head; a similarly named XLP 514 queue is not a substitute. The manufacturer says drivers from 10.6.1 are WHQL certified. No installer payload, signature chain or current-host runtime was independently tested. |
| Older files and other systems | NOVEXX’s archive still lists 8.7.0 and older packages; the manual’s Vista/Windows 7-era installation paragraph is historical. Current exact Mac/Linux packages were not verified. Confirm a supported route before promising those platforms. |
| Design, firmware and download form | Label-design software creates the layout; the Windows driver sends that job. Firmware is separate. The provider page requests email and other information before download; this review did not submit that form, accept terms or download/run an installer. |
Match ports and purchased options
| Connection | Check |
|---|---|
| USB and storage | Use the USB-B device port for computer data. The USB-A host port is for storage/keyboard use; an SD card or USB thumb drive used for standalone jobs is a different workflow. PDF17 / PDF32 |
| Serial and Ethernet | The basic model has RS232, USB and Ethernet10/100. Match the configured Print interface → Print interface with the connected host path. The manual’s factory-state description selects USB; read the actual unit rather than copying a sample IP. PDF105 / PDF108 |
| Purchased options | The additional RS232/422/485 and signal ports require the I/O board. Reflex sensor, short-label sensor, cutter, internal rewinder and dispenser require their applicable hardware. The rear drawing includes an optional board and is not a promise that it is fitted. PDF16–17 |
XLP 504 not printing: start at the device
Use the exact status number, text and screen state. A media, lever or internal error can stop printing independently of the computer driver.
Material mode and pitch measurement
Compare Print → Material → Material type (Punched or Endless), width including the backing web, and Foil mode: Thermal printing for suitable direct-thermal stock, Thermo transfer for ribbon printing. Job commands can overwrite manual settings made before the job arrives. A correct local setting alone does not prove the application job uses it. PDF122–123
The Home-screen keys 3+4 measure pitch by feeding two label-start marks through the sensor. The result becomes Material length and sets Material type to Punched. This changes settings and consumes stock; use it only as an approved media adjustment with host jobs stopped. It is not a printer-status report. The manual shows 9038 if pitch exceeds 500mm or no punch is found after two 500mm feeds. No fixed-voltage, sensor-bypass or factory-reset recipe is prescribed. PDF25 / PDF122
Print the configuration status report
For an authorized local diagnosis, prepare suitable stock and stop incoming jobs. From the displayed menu, open Info → Status Printouts → Printer Status. The report needs 100mm-wide material and is about 200mm long. It records configuration; available fields depend on model/options. Compare actual printer/head, material, interface and interpreter with the job. The sample values are examples, not settings to copy. Menu overview PDF37 / Report PDF85
Six screen-state checks
| Screen | Meaning |
|---|---|
| White · Ready / printing | Ready can receive and process data. While waiting for a start signal, a job can remain stopped until the configured foot-switch/start condition; it is not automatically a failed driver. |
| Cyan · Home | Not ready to receive print data; interpreter stopped. This differs from the Stopped state even though both use cyan. |
| Cyan · Stopped | The current job is stopped, but the printer can still receive/process data and display errors. |
| Green · Settings | The parameter menu is active; normal print-data reception/interpreter is stopped. |
| Red · Error | The current job stops and shows a status report. Correct the cause, then use the indicated acknowledgement (normally key 4); do not repeatedly dismiss an unresolved fault. |
| Yellow · Warning | The warning is brief and printing is not stopped. Record its number/text before it disappears. A color alone is not the full diagnosis. |
Eight selected status codes
| Code | Model-specific check |
|---|---|
| 5001 · No gap found | Check loaded stock, label-length definition, sensor position and cleanliness. Several blank labels can be a detection failure, not a reason to reinstall the driver. PDF181 |
| 5002 · Material end | Material no longer passes the gap sensor. The documented sequence acknowledges with key 4, loads/checks stock and sensor, then key 4 resumes the job and reinitializes the gap. Keep clear of motion. PDF181 |
| 5003 · Lever open | The printhead pressure lever was opened during feed or printing; normal closure acknowledges this condition. Do not force a blocked mechanism. PDF181 |
| 5008 · Ribbon end | For direct thermal, compare Foil mode; for transfer, check supply, winding and fit. The manual also lists a ribbon-motor output-stage context, so sound consumables do not rule out a service fault. Do not adjust expert-only spring/torque settings. PDF181–183 |
| 5020 · I2C Timeout xx | Internal bus communication timeout; xx identifies a device, not an Ethernet address. The manual specifies power-off then on after 30 seconds for this fault; persistent recurrence needs service, not repeated resets. PDF183 |
| 5028 · P.supplyoverheat | Power-supply temperature is too high. Allow cooling as directed; recurring faults need service. Do not open the power supply or treat this as a print-driver error. PDF183 |
| 5063 · Lever open | The lever is not closed. Opening it removes queued status messages from the display; closure acknowledges this message. Record the original code before opening, since its disappearance does not prove the original cause is fixed. PDF184 |
| 9038 · No gap found | Shown during the pitch-measurement branch after the documented length/detection limit. Compare sensor and material before retrying; keep this branch distinct from 5001 during ordinary job handling. PDF122 |
Eight cause checks
If the table extends beyond the screen, scroll it sideways.
| Symptom | Check | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| No PC output | Compare Ready/Home/Settings/Stopped and a local status report before reinstalling. | Guide |
| Wrong connection | Use USB-B data, the actual serial port or Ethernet and match the selected interface. | Guide |
| Feeds blank labels | Check stock, gap definition and sensor position; distinguish 5001 from9038. | Guide |
| Ribbon warning without ribbon | Compare direct-thermal stock and Thermal printing mode with the job. | Guide |
| Print shifts after new job | Compare the job’s material width/length/type, since it can overwrite panel settings. | Guide |
| Waiting at dispenser | Check actual fitted dispenser/start-source conditions with the operator; do not disable an interlock. | Guide |
| Device good, PC job fails | Common host check: compare queue/model/head resolution and current OS package. | Guide |
| Recurring internal/heat fault | Record code/text and contact service; do not replace boards or clear parameters. | Guide |
Record evidence for service
The four keys are numbered left-to-right and follow their current on-screen icons. Reset key combinations, firmware download, circuit-board replacement, mechanical spring/torque adjustments and automatic execution from removable media are outside this guide. For service, record the original number/text, actual model/head/options and the failing layout; redact customer data. Unlisted codes need the authorized service office. PDF162
