Open official MK4S downloadsThe MK4S support page lists PrusaSlicer and the handbook. Prepare prints by slicing models with the MK4S profile to produce G-code. The Firmware entry is a separate device component.
Current stable software and OS selection
On 28 October 2026 the official platform tabs showed stable PrusaSlicer 2.9.6. These are publisher requirements; installation, signatures and physical printing were not tested.
| Item | Check and action |
|---|---|
| Windows | The current page requires 64-bit Windows 10 or later. This does not establish native Windows ARM64 support. |
| macOS | The page specifies a Universal binary for Intel and Apple Silicon. The tab does not state a minimum macOS version; check your exact release. |
| Linux | The current route is Flathub; confirm the distribution and CPU. The separate 3.0.0-alpha12 and Flathub beta entries are experimental. |

Match the MK4S, nozzle and material profiles
| Item | Check and action |
|---|---|
| Printer | Select Original Prusa MK4S in the Printer list. If absent, use Add Printer → Add Presets or Configuration Wizard (p.43). Match the exact printer. |
| Nozzle | The standard nozzle is 0.4mm and filament is 1.75mm. A modified machine needs its actual nozzle matched to the profile. |
| Model file | STL, OBJ, AMF, STEP and 3MF are model inputs. Slice, preview and export compatible G-code; renaming a model file is insufficient. |
USB storage and network print paths
| Item | Check and action |
|---|---|
| USB | The front USB reads print files from a flash drive (p.13). Export on the computer, safely eject, then insert into the printer. This workflow uses print files. |
| PrusaLink | MK4S has Ethernet (RJ45) and Wi-Fi. Built-in PrusaLink provides status and file transfer at the printer IP on the local network, without internet access. |
| Prusa Connect | Connect is the cloud service. USB printing works offline. Follow instructions for the installed firmware and keep credentials and keys private. |

Compare a sample print with your sliced file
- Complete the safety and initial setup checks. Selftest requires the print sheet and a stable surface; touch the printer only when prompted. It is not required before every print (pp.18–19).
- On a prepared printer, choose a supplied USB test model; the handbook suggests Keychain. Watch the first layer and use Stop print if it peels. Keep clear of hot parts (pp.23–24).
- If the sample works but your file fails, compare MK4S/nozzle/material profiles and Preview. This common diagnostic comparison does not automatically verify PC software or network transfer.
Export, USB recognition and safe handling
After slicing, inspect layers, supports and bed contact in Preview before exporting to USB (p.49). If storage is visible but files are absent, check compatible G-code, completed writing, safe ejection and a simple filename (p.63).
Handbook p.63 recommends a 4–16GB USB drive, FAT32 and one partition; exFAT is an incompatibility example. Compare an already suitable spare and a known file first. Formatting deletes files and can prevent resuming the current print; preserve needed data before deciding.
Allow hot parts to cool; switch off and unplug before inspecting electronics or internal parts. Use the exact service guide for persistent faults. Surface care differs by sheet type; avoid improvised cleaners.
MK4S print-failure checks
| Item | Check and action |
|---|---|
| Software | Check stable software and MK4S/nozzle/material presets. Same MK4S download guide |
| No files | Check that the sliced print file was fully written. File/USB checks |
| USB fault | Compare suitable storage and record any 26821 message. Official code |
| First layer | Check sheet placement and stability; stop if the first layer peels. Sample comparison |
| Network | Compare USB, local Link and cloud Connect separately. Connection paths |
| Device fault | Record the exact screen name and MK4S code. Heating/loadcell faults need device diagnosis. Error distinctions |
Three verified MK4S error codes
The official articles list multiple model-specific numbers. These rows use only the numbers explicitly assigned to MK4S; follow the exact screen and linked article.
| Item | Check and action |
|---|---|
| 26821 | USB flash disk error pauses printing for a drive/file issue. Check a loose connection. Formatting removes the current print file and prevents resuming it. Official cause |
| 26528 | Loadcell Timeout means a measurement sample did not arrive in time. Follow the on-screen/exact service checks and seek support if it persists. Reinstalling software does not diagnose sensor wiring. Official cause |
| 26204 | Hotend thermal runaway stops heating after temperature recovery fails. Preserve thermal protection; follow cooled, powered-off heater/thermistor service checks or seek support. Official cause |
Official evidence and verification date
Checked 28 October 2026 using 18 relevant whole pages of the 66-page MK4S/MK3.9S handbook 1.01, current platform tabs and official error articles. The handbook is dated 26 September 2024 internally and 23 October in the listing. PrusaSlicer 2.9.6 listing dates also differ; they are not a verified build date. No installer, physical print, account connection or formatting was performed.
