Open official CT-E301 downloadsUB is USB-only; TR also has serial and Ethernet
The CT-E301 product is a direct thermal receipt printer for 58/80 mm paper. It does not use ink or toner. The model classification distinguishes UB: USB from TR: USB + serial + Ethernet. Check the full label and actual rear connectors before following LAN instructions. A cash-drawer connector is not a network port.
Cable setup requires power off before connecting and says not to connect several host interfaces at the same time. Select one connection for diagnosis. The product summary says “1 button”, but the exact manual describes separate POWER and FEED keys; the procedures here follow that manual.
Current download rows and POS components
On 2026-10-11, the CT-E301 download table listed Windows Driver 3.6.1.0 for Windows 10, Server 2016, Server 2019 and Windows 11. CUPS macOS / Linux 1.2.8 appear as separate packages. Their rows do not specify modern OS releases or processor architecture; a listing is not an installation-tested compatibility guarantee.
OPOS 1.14.1.9 lists Windows 10/8/7 and Server 2012/2008; JAVA POS 1.14.0.5E lists Windows 10/8/7 and Linux. VCOM is a separate virtual-COM component. POS Printer Utility 2.10.0.0 is a configuration utility, not a replacement for every application’s driver. Do not extend the Windows print-driver row’s Windows 11 support to all OPOS tools. Ask the POS software supplier whether it expects Windows printing, OPOS, JavaPOS or a COM port. SDK entries do not promise ordinary phone USB printing. Check the current package notes before installing; firmware is a different task.
CT-E301 not printing: device, connection and job
Run the printer’s own self-test
Load suitable paper and close the cover. Hold FEED while turning power on; keep FEED held for about one second until the buzzer, then release. The self-test prints the model, firmware, interface/buffer and memory-switch settings and fonts. POWER normally needs a 2–3 second hold to switch power. A successful self-test with a failed computer job narrows the problem to the connection, selected queue, port, application or driver; it does not identify the driver alone.
TR only: print the LAN configuration
On the Ethernet-equipped model, press the rear panel button to print network settings. Compare the reported address with the computer’s printer port. The manual distinguishes this from holding the button and repeating the hold: that resets saved network settings. Do not use the reset to obtain a report. A DHCP address can change after restart.
The rear yellow LAN LED is lit for link and flashes during transfer. Green is lit at 100 Mbps; green off can mean 10 Mbps as well as no connection. It does not by itself prove a disconnected cable. These rear LEDs differ from the front POWER/ERROR pair.
Read the front lights together
The official error table gives different waveforms for several conditions. The selected groups below intentionally do not invent flash timing or numbered service codes. Memory Error’s ERROR column is “–”, not an explicit off state. Buzzer behaviour depends on memory-switch settings, so silence does not rule out an error.
| Front indication / context | Meaning or first action | Help |
|---|---|---|
| POWER lit + ERROR lit: paper end | Load a new thermal roll; this combination also needs cover context. | Paper and cover |
| POWER lit + ERROR lit: cover opened in standby | Close the cover securely after checking the paper. | Cover check |
| POWER lit + ERROR flashing: cover opened during printing | Straighten the paper and close; a resume command may be needed depending on settings. | Paper path |
| POWER lit + ERROR cutter waveform | Remove the jam cause; with cover closed, use FEED as directed. | Cutter recovery |
| POWER lit + ERROR head-hot waveform | Wait for cooling; the printer resumes automatically when temperature falls. | Cooling |
| POWER flashing: memory error waveform | The ERROR column is unspecified. Record the pattern and seek qualified support. | Exact light diagram |
| POWER lit + ERROR voltage/system waveforms | Low voltage, high voltage and system faults have different diagrams; do not classify by red flashing alone. | Power and support |
| POWER macro-wait waveform + ERROR off | Waiting for macro execution; compare the POS command/job context. | POS command context |
| POWER data-reception waveform + ERROR off | Receiving data, not automatically a memory fault. | Job and mode check |
Symptoms and the next check
| Symptom | First useful check | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| No POWER light | Check outlet, seated power connectors and the specified adapter; hold POWER 2–3 seconds. | Power check |
| Paper end / open cover | Check thermal face, roll path and a cover closed at its centre. | Paper check |
| Cutter stopped / outlet blocked | Power off and cool before clearing scraps; do not force a stuck cover or touch the blade. | Cutter guidance |
| USB, serial or LAN connection fails | Use the fitted UB/TR interface. For TR, compare its report address; serial settings must match the POS application. | Interface and report |
| Self-test works but PC/POS output fails | Common PC checks: selected queue, pause/offline state, correct port and POS component. A missing or wrong driver uses this exact CT-E301 route. | CT-E301 driver guide |
| Blank / faint or uneven receipt | Check the thermal side and suitable paper, then cooled head/platen cleaning. | Paper and cleaning |
| Pauses during heavy black printing | Head-hot protection can pause output; allow automatic cooling recovery. | Heat check |
| Wrong width / clipping / feed after size change | Compare the real 58/80 mm stock, partition, print-area setting and POS receipt layout. | Width setup |
| HEX data instead of a receipt / waiting job | Exit hexadecimal dump mode; otherwise compare the POS commands and queue without factory reset. | Print mode |
Power or service indications
Power setup requires the specified AC adapter and secure connectors. Disconnect the wall plug before reseating its power connector. Persistent voltage, system or memory indications need the recorded light pattern and qualified support; changing a Windows driver does not repair the printer’s power circuit.
Thermal side, cover and 58 mm partition
Load the printable face upward, over the anti-curl damper, pull a few centimetres straight out and close at the centre until it clicks. Keep the outlet clear. For 58 mm paper, power off before fitting the supplied partition and set the print area accordingly. The manual says to dedicate a printer used with 58 mm stock to that size: returning to 80 mm can impair feeding/printing. The app’s receipt width and margins are common job-setting checks.
Clear a cutter jam safely
The cutter procedure uses power off, opening with the lever, removing the roll and all scraps, reloading, closing and powering on. Let the hot head cool and avoid the blade. The error section also calls for FEED with the cover closed after removing the cause. If the cover will not open or the cutter stays blocked, stop and use qualified support; do not pry or dismantle it.
Head/platen cleaning differs from exterior disinfection
Turn off, unplug and wait a few minutes for cooling, then wipe head/platen dirt with an ethyl-alcohol-dampened cotton swab. Avoid fingers and metal tools. The disinfectant-ready housing claim is not permission to spray or soak the inside.
Allow thermal protection to recover
Dense black output, continuous jobs and a hot environment can trigger head cooling. Wait for automatic restart and keep the paper outlet clear. Repeated or persistent faults need a pattern/photo and model information for support rather than an assumed driver reinstall.
Hex dump is not normal self-test
Hexadecimal dump starts with the cover open during the FEED/power sequence and prints raw received data. Normal commands do not run in that mode. Exit by pressing FEED three consecutive times or powering off. For normal-mode jobs, compare the application’s interface/serial settings and command language as common POS checks. Preserve memory/network settings before any technician-led change.
