Official ET-3850 software
Open the exact US ET-3850 support page and manually choose the actual operating system. Check package description, region and CPU before downloading. Keep scanning components and firmware separate from the print driver.
| Route | Observed listing | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Windows print / scan | Windows11-selected support lists print driver3.80.05 (2026-08-05) and Scan2 v6.7.81.0 separately. | The listed print filename identifies x64. This is not proof of native Windows ARM support. |
| macOS / AirPrint | macOS26-selected support lists print driver13.45 (2026-06-12), Scan2 v6.7.84 and a separate combo installer. | Exact Apple Silicon requirements and physical installation were not tested. AirPrint also needs Paper Setup Auto Display enabled. |
| Smart Panel / firmware | The exact support page links iOS/Android Smart Panel; firmware has its own category. | A mobile app or firmware file is not a PC print driver. Current app-store OS limits and Linux packages were not verified. |
Match ET-3850 and the actual connection
The exact guide lists Hi-Speed USB for computers, RJ-45 10/100 Ethernet and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi b/g/n. USB 3.0 cables are explicitly unsupported; Wi-Fi is not a 5GHz connection. Ethernet and ordinary Wi-Fi cannot operate together, while Wi-Fi Direct can coexist with infrastructure or Ethernet. Direct mode is a separate connection from joining your router.
This article uses the US ET-3850 C11CJ61201 support mapping to CPD-60203R1, copyright2021/9-21. It does not substitute ReadyPrint ET-3850U or ET-4850 fax instructions. Current packages are checked separately from the manual’s historical OS information.
Print a nozzle pattern before replacing software
- Finish active jobs, clear the LCD error, extend the output tray and load plain Letter/A4 paper. For the manual’s product check, disconnect interface cables.
- Press Home → Maintenance → Print Head Nozzle Check → Print. This prints a pattern without a computer job; do not choose Reset or Power Cleaning instead.
- A complete pattern shifts attention to computer, cable or settings. Gaps/faint lines point to nozzle/ink maintenance. If no page prints, inspect the device error and paper path first.
Compare all pattern lines, not just whether paper emerged. A clean nozzle test is not proof that network addressing or the PC queue is correct. After testing, reconnect only the intended interface and send one small document.
Eight LCD conditions
These are paraphrased message conditions from the exact guide, not invented numeric service codes. Keep the actual LCD wording when seeking support.
| Condition | Meaning / action | Next |
|---|---|---|
| General printer error | Normal off/on, then inspect jams; persistent error without a jam needs support. | Details |
| Specified cassette is empty | Load the named source and match size/type. | Details |
| Paper Setup Auto Display disabled | AirPrint requires that paper-setting display to be enabled. | Details |
| Borderless ink pad approaching limit | Arrange Epson service; dismissing the notice does not replace the pad. | Details |
| Borderless ink pad at limit | Stop and contact service; the pad is not user-replaceable. | Details |
| Invalid IP/subnet combination | Compare the actual network report with the approved network. | Details |
| Driver/port check requested | Compare the intended USB or network queue and current software. | Details |
| Firmware recovery mode | An update failed; use exact official support, not a generic reset tool. | Details |
Print the report and read its code with its message
Home → Settings → General Settings → Network Settings → Connection Check → Print Check Report, then press Start. The shared linked code topic warns that not every listed condition applies to every product. Apply the row only when your ET-3850 report actually shows it.
| Report code | First check | Next |
|---|---|---|
| E-1 | Cable/network device; choose Ethernet or ordinary Wi-Fi. | Connection |
| E-2 / E-3 / E-7 | SSID discovery or password mismatch; compare the report’s wording and 2.4GHz network. | Connection |
| E-5 | Security mode/band mismatch; ask the network administrator to check compatible settings. | Connection |
| E-6 | MAC filtering or device-limit policy; review with the administrator. | Connection |
| E-8 | Printer address assignment; compare DHCP/Manual and the real subnet. | Connection |
| E-9 | Computer/device connection and network setup. | Connection |
| E-10 | IP, subnet mask and gateway combination. | Connection |
| E-11 | Manual default gateway is incomplete or unavailable. | Connection |
| E-12 / E-13 | Combined addressing, credentials or host-network mismatch; preserve the whole message. | Connection |
Eight printing causes and next checks
| Symptom | Check | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Device cannot print its own pattern | Read LCD and paper path before changing a computer. | Nozzle test |
| Blank / streaked / wrong colors | Inspect pattern and visual tank levels before maintenance. | Ink / nozzles |
| Paper does not feed / jams | Check cassette, printable side down, size and guides. | Cassette / jams |
| Wrong software / model / CPU | Choose exact ET-3850 and OS; keep print and scan packages distinct. | ET-3850 drivers |
| Wi-Fi / LAN offline | Print the network report; match actual code, SSID and addressing. | Network report |
| USB queue does not print | Use matching USB data cable/port and the intended queue. | Connection / queue |
| AirPrint missing / limited settings | Check paper auto-display and the supported printing route. | AirPrint / settings |
| Pad / recovery / persistent device error | Distinguish maintenance box, service pad and firmware state. | Service conditions |
Cassette loading and safe jam checks
Wait until printing/scanning/copying stops. Load short edge first with glossy/printable side down, fit guides without squeezing and keep the stack below their tabs. Push the cassette fully home, match LCD and driver size/type, and extend the output tray. Do not move the cassette during printing; curled stock or too many sheets can affect feed or duplex output.
For an internal jam, follow the LCD location animation and remove paper gently. Do not tilt or invert the ink-tank printer, touch protruding parts or press panel buttons while a hand is inside. Persistent fragments or inaccessible parts need support.
Check before repeated head cleaning
Visually check ink tanks and compare the nozzle pattern. Complete lines need no cleaning; gaps/faint lines can need ordinary Print Head Cleaning. If up to three cleanings do not help, turn off and wait at least12hours before another check.
Power Cleaning consumes much more ink and fills the maintenance box faster. Each tank must be at least one-third full, with sufficient maintenance-box space; low ink can damage the printer. Use the exact pattern guidance and official procedure only when needed. Wait at least12hours before another Power Cleaning. Do not keep running it for an offline queue.
Compare the actual route and queue
For USB, use the supported computer data connection and correct printer port. For LAN/Wi-Fi, compare the printer report, actual SSID and address with the intended network; do not copy example static IPs. Record a filtering or isolation policy for the administrator instead of disabling security or resetting a shared router. Print only one small test job after reconnecting.
AirPrint requires Paper Setup Auto Display enabled. As common computer checks, select the intended ET-3850 queue, examine paused/failed jobs and avoid sending duplicates. If a device pattern works but one application fails, compare that app’s size/type and supported print settings before reinstalling software.
Service pad, maintenance box and recovery differ
The borderless waste-ink pad is not a user-replaceable part; it is distinct from the replaceable maintenance box. A counter-reset utility does not repair a saturated pad. For recovery mode or a persistent hardware error, record the exact message and use official Epson support. Do not disconnect power during a firmware update or select factory/network reset as a generic repair.
For ordinary case cleaning, switch off, unplug and disconnect cables. Use a soft cloth; avoid alcohol/thinner, lubricant or water inside, and do not touch the white cable, translucent film or ink tubes. Scanner cleaning is separate from unclogging print nozzles.
Official sources and verification
Checked2026-10-13: native exact model/OS package lists and manual mapping; official HTML topics, nozzle and cassette diagrams reviewed. CPD-60203R1 historical manual is separated from current packages. Supplemental CPD-65213 (2024) concerns the equipment label. No installer/firmware was downloaded or run, and no physical printer test or ARM/Apple Silicon/Linux guarantee is claimed.
