Select your operating system on Epson’s U.S. support page. For a Windows application that prints through a standard queue, look for the Advanced Printer Driver (APD). If your POS software specifies OPOS or JavaPOS, choose that component. If the file is not shown, use the Business System Products Technical Support link on the same page and check the TM-T70II listing.

Check the model label and the fitted rear port

This guide covers the front-loading TM-T70II. TM-T70II-DT and TM-T70II-DT2 have separate support pages. Fitted interfaces vary by unit and may include USB, Ethernet or serial. The standard USB port is unavailable on configurations where it has a cap. Use the connector diagram to distinguish the cash drawer socket from the network port.

Load the roll from the front and feed it between the guides

Use the front cover-open lever. Drop the thermal roll in the direction shown in Epson’s diagram, pull a short length between the two guides, close the cover and tear off the excess.

Use FEED to finish the self-test

  1. Load paper and close the cover. With the printer off, hold FEED while turning it on. Keep holding the button until the status sheet starts printing.
  2. When the sheet prints and the Paper light flashes, the printer is waiting for input. Press FEED for less than one second to print the character pattern. A press of at least one second opens mode selection.
  3. After completed prints, the printer returns to normal operation. Compare the interface shown on the status sheet with the port you are using.

If the self-test prints and POS jobs still fail, check the fitted connection and use the driver guide for this model to check the queue and POS component.

When the TM-T70II does not print a receipt

  • Steady Paper light. The roll is low. Have a replacement ready. If printing stops and Error lights up, check whether the roll has run out.
  • Flashing Error light. Close an open roll cover or wait for an overheated printhead to cool. These two errors clear automatically when their cause is removed. A flashing Paper light during the self-test has a different meaning.
  • Paper is jammed. Switch the printer off, open the front roll cover and remove the jam before reloading. Keep clear of the printhead while it is hot. Contact Epson support if the cutter error persists or the light matches an unrecoverable pattern in the manual.
