Official Link WIDE 2 driver and app downloads
On the official PC page, select instax Link WIDE 2 at STEP1 and your OS at STEP2. Its driver differs from the predecessor Link WIDE driver; the wrong one will not connect.
Operating environment and dedicated software
| Check | Check and next step |
|---|---|
| Windows | The current listing specifies Windows 11 64-bit Home/Pro. Choose the WIDE 2 Windows entry. The x64 filename does not establish Windows ARM support. |
| Mac | The current listing specifies Mac OS 15 or later. Choose the dedicated WIDE 2 Mac entry. This listing does not establish every CPU configuration or successful installation. |
| Smartphone app | Use instax Link WIDE app version 2.0.0 or later. Manual p.2 specifies iOS 17+ or Android 12+ with Google Play, subject to device limitations. Check the official app download guidance for current requirements. The mini Link and SQUARE Link apps are for other products. |
| Settings and features | Smartphone features such as Photo Mixer/QR and firmware checks use the app. Keep them separate from PC driver setup. The official FAQ notes that enabling WPP on Windows 11 24H2 or later can remove an installed driver; if it disappears, also check the administrator’s print-security policy. |
Identify FI049W and its connection
| Check | Check and next step |
|---|---|
| FI049W | Check Link WIDE 2 / FI049W on the device and manual cover. |
| Bluetooth printing | Manual p.13 specifies Bluetooth 5.1. The PC FAQ explicitly excludes Wi-Fi and USB printing. Check whether the printer is still connected to a smartphone before searching from a PC. |
| USB-C charging | The supplied USB Type-C cable is for charging (pp.3–5). For PC charging, connect directly rather than through a hub/keyboard; charging can pause when the PC sleeps. |
For the predecessor, use the instax Link WIDE guide.
Check film loading, count and white prints
| Check | Check and next step |
|---|---|
| Film and alignment | Use instax WIDE film; mini/SQUARE do not fit. Align the yellow marks on a new pack and close the door to eject the black cover automatically. Each pack contains the cover and 10 sheets (p.6). |
| Remaining film / white prints | Check that the app shows 0, switch off and replace the empty pack. Opening the door with unused film can expose it and produce white prints (pp.2, 7, 14). |
| Ejection and development | Keep the slot clear and the printer still. Wait until the film has fully ejected, then hold its edge. Approximate 14-second printing and 90-second development are separate stages; do not shake or fold the print (pp.12–14, 17 and product page). |
Compare app printing and device reprinting
- Charge, then hold Power for about 1 second. During initial app setup, select Link WIDE 2 (pp.7–9).
- Match the discovered device to the name on the printer bottom and use Connect → PAIR. If already paired, select it under Device not connected (pp.10–11).
- Select one photo under Simple Print and tap the print icon. This is a normal photo print that consumes film, rather than a separate diagnostic pattern (pp.11–12).
- If a previous image is stored, hold Function for about 2 seconds to reprint. Powering off clears that stored image; use the app to print it again (pp.13–14).
If the app prints successfully but the PC fails, check the dedicated PC driver, search and preview. A failed reprint alone does not establish a hardware fault.
Read status, charging and battery LEDs separately
These tables follow manual pp.5 and 7. The one-to-three green flashes below are battery levels shown after pressing Function while powered on, rather than numbered error codes.
| Check | Check and next step |
|---|---|
| Flashing blue | A firmware update is in progress; distinguish this from an ordinary connection failure. |
| Pulsing light blue / pink | Reprinting is in progress. |
| Steady yellow → off after 3 seconds | Unable to charge or low battery. Check the charging connection and temperature. |
| Flashing yellow | A film ejection error. This is separate from the green battery-count indication. |
Charging status
| Check | Check and next step |
|---|---|
| On / flashing green | Charging. A steady/flashing device-color LED means not charging. |
| On / steady green | Charging is complete. |
| Power off | Flashing green means charging; no light means either not charging or complete. An unlit LED alone does not prove a full battery. |
Battery check with Function
| Check | Check and next step |
|---|---|
| One green flash | Low battery |
| Two green flashes | Middle charge level |
| Three green flashes | High charge level |
Ejection, charging and device checks
| Check | Check and next step |
|---|---|
| Film does not eject | Manual p.14 describes a power cycle and, for a persistent jam, removing the jammed film and loading a new pack. Check the original instructions because film may be damaged/exposed; seek official support if the problem repeats. |
| Charging / power | Charging takes about 1.5–2 hours; the charging range is +5 to +40°C. Seek support if charging fails within that range (pp.5, 14, 17). |
| Temporary malfunction / care | Manual p.14 points to the battery and Reset button for a temporary malfunction. Do not treat it as a factory-reset procedure. Do not clean with alcohol or thinner (p.17); persistent faults need official repair advice. |
Choose the next check by symptom
| Check | Check and next step |
|---|---|
| PC connection fails | Check the dedicated WIDE 2 driver/OS, Bluetooth, power, battery and whether a phone is connected. Open check |
| PC timeout / no output | The PC FAQ suggests changing Print Speed from default High Speed to Normal or Slow and retrying. Retry if Slow still errors; seek support for repeated failures. Open check |
| Device / permissions | Check the bottom device name and app’s Link WIDE 2 selection. Compare Bluetooth/nearby-device/photo permissions with the official FAQ; do not indiscriminately delete other pairings. Open check |
| Cropping / border | The driver’s Print Preview shows the actual print area. If needed content is missing, Cancel and adjust it in the source application. Open check |
| White print / film count | Check unused-film exposure, WIDE film type and yellow alignment marks. Open check |
| Reprint alone fails | Check whether power-off cleared the previous image; compare with printing again from the app. Open check |
| Yellow LED / ejection | Separate steady-yellow charging/low-battery issues from flashing-yellow film ejection errors. Open check |
