This English quick guide is based on the Korean catalog. Confirm model-specific compatibility and installation details on the manufacturer’s official page.
Download MCP31LB driver
- Match the full model number on the device label, including suffixes.
- Check your operating-system version and architecture on the official support page.
- Cancel pending print jobs before replacing an existing driver.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for power, USB, and network connections.
Model and driver source
This guide is for the direct-thermal receipt/pos printer in the first-generation mc-print3 family; pc usb-b, ethernet and bluetooth. mcp31ci usb-c instructions do not apply; wi-fi requires a separate optional unit model Star Micronics MCP31LB. The download button opens the official Star Micronics support page in this window. The manufacturer’s page is authoritative for the available driver packages and their current compatibility.
Operating-system and download checks
The Korean catalog lists these systems for checking: Star Windows Software Full 3.11.0 explicitly includes MCP31LB and supports Windows 11 x64/ARM64, excluding IoT Enterprise. Older Windows examples in installation articles do not establish current package support. Mac CUPS 4.13.0 lists mC-Print3 and macOS 15/14/13/12/11/10.15/10.14, not macOS 26. Linux CUPS 3.17.0 lists RHEL 9.5 x64, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 32-bit/24.04 LTS x64 and Chrome OS V134. Follow the applicable CUPS package manual, not a Windows EXE; other distributions are not inferred.. Select your exact operating system and version on the official page. If your version is not offered, do not install a package intended for a different system.
Connection and installation
- Check the rear MCP31LB label and self-print. MCP31LBNH also prints MCP31LB, so confirm the rear interface sticker rather than merging configurations. Check the specified adapter/mains rating, thermal roll, closed cover and permissions; save existing queue/IP settings. A 58 mm roll needs the appropriate guide.
- For self-printing, power the printer off, hold FEED, press and release Power, then release FEED when printing starts. Read the actual IP and Bluetooth device name from the report.
- For Windows USB, leave PC USB disconnected until software installation finishes. Extract the official ZIP and run Setup.exe in the Setup folder. Then power on and connect the PC data cable to printer USB-B; allow automatic queue creation and print a test page. Version 3.11.0 warns that a powered-off USB printer may not appear in Devices and Printers.
- Route rear cables through the cover channels. USB-B does not charge the host. Do not assume an iOS host on USB-A 2.4A and a PC on USB-B can both communicate simultaneously. POS applications requiring OPOS need their own configuration.
- For Ethernet, use Category 5 or better cable to the router/hub and the intended local network. Read IP Address under Current IP Parameters Status on the self-print; resolve missing DHCP/address before driver setup. An administrator assigns a non-conflicting static IP/subnet/gateway and follows Web Configuration IP Parameters, save and restart when required.
- After software installation, select the actual model in Printer Utility, Ethernet and Search Network, or enter the verified IP if discovery fails. Windows Printer Queue Management, Install Driver and Add creates the queue; Test Print checks it. A generic Ethernet/Wi-Fi article does not establish built-in Wi-Fi.
- For Bluetooth, check Auto Connection Off as specified in the official Windows guide and pair the self-printed device name. Read the actual COM port under device properties Hardware. Select the model, Bluetooth and that COM in Printer Utility, then create/test the Windows queue through Queue Management, Install Driver and Add. A paired device name is not itself a print destination; Driver unavailable can precede queue setup. Never copy an example COM number.
- New Pairing Permission can prevent new or repeat pairing. Do not forget a working device before checking the official recovery procedure and administrator policy. Mac/Linux users follow the supported CUPS package manual; use the MCP31LB online manual, not the MCP31CI/CBI second-generation manual.
Troubleshooting
For missing USB output, check software-first installation, power, the USB-B data cable and actual queue. Match Ethernet IP, queue port, DHCP and cabling. Bluetooth requires the actual COM and print queue. Resolve paper-out or open-cover indications by loading the roll and closing both sides. Allow a hot head/substrate to cool and recover. For cutter faults, remove trapped paper if the cover opens; otherwise follow the official power-cycle procedure. Repeated faults need service, not indiscriminate resets or deletion of every queue.
Frequently asked questions
