This guide is for the sp700-series 9-pin impact dot-matrix receipt / kitchen order printer using a ribbon, not a thermal printer or scan/copy mfp. sp742 is the cutter model; sp712 is the tear-bar model. usb, ethernet, serial, parallel and bluetooth depend on the purchased interface. wi-fi steps apply only to an actually fitted compatible wireless network configuration, not every sp742. model Star Micronics SP742. The Korean catalog lists these systems for checking: Verified 10 October 2026 on live official package pages: StarPRNT Intelligence Full 3.8.1, 251MB, updated 23 March 2023, explicitly supports SP700 and Windows11 64-bit / Windows10,8.1,7 32/64-bit. Full includes manuals; Setup EXE does not. Current Mac CUPS4.13.1,559KB,updated9October2026 explicitly lists SP700 and macOS27,26,15,14,13; do not merge its scope with the separate4.13.0 package. Linux CUPS3.17.0,617KB,updated14April2026 lists SP700 and RHEL9.5 64-bit,Ubuntu16.04LTS32-bit/24.04LTS64-bit,ChromeOSV134. No inference of all Linux/ARM/WindowsServer. Check actual file,CPU and terms; legacy availability is not OS security support.. Select your exact operating system and version on the official page. If your version is not offered, do not install a package intended for a different system.
Connection and installation
- Verify exact label/interface,OS/CPU,rights,power,ribbon,paper and POS application. Preserve shared work. Official SP712/742 Hardware Manual pp9,13,24: switch affected devices off and disconnect printer power before cable work. Avoid hot heads and cutters; never connect a telephone to the peripheral drive connector. Read terms yourself. No routine reset,firmware change or security disable.
- USB configuration only: official StarPRNT USB help says leave USB disconnected until driver installation is complete. Extract Full ZIP and run setup/Setup; follow actual compatible installer. Then coordinate hardware safety with the actual connection prompts, use the rear data connector and prescribed ferrite/support in manual p10, power on and check the actual Windows printer queue. Match SP700 cutter/SP742,USB port,paper and receipt layout; print a test page and check the POS application's queue.
- Ethernet: approved LAN and actual interface; manual p11 covers cable/ferrite conditions. Actual Wi-Fi configuration must first join an approved network using its own official interface manual. Do not assume built-in wireless, copy sample credentials or confuse Bluetooth with Wi-Fi.
- Official StarPRNT network help: installation and queue creation are separate. Obtain the real Current IP Parameters from self-test. Troubleshooting
Faint printing: switch off,let the head cool,check correct ribbon seating and turn its feed knob in the marked direction to remove slack; replace the correct ribbon if needed. No output: actual queue,port,interface and POS format. Manual pp27–28: paper end needs stock/cover; cover open needs the correct cover closed; overheating clears after cooling. Ethernet POWER/ERROR together at2-second intervals indicates a cable link problem; together at0.125-second intervals indicates lost IP. Verify the real approved address and preserve work before a needed restart. Paper jam: power off and applicable p35 safety procedure.
