This guide is for the a4 monochrome laser print-only printer with usb and ethernet; wi-fi and wi-fi direct require the optional wireless network adapter, not b405 scan/copy/fax model Xerox VersaLink B400. Connection and installation

1. Check exact B400, OS/CPU, rights, options, cables, power/paper/toner. Preserve queues/jobs/ports/options. No warning bypass, reset, firmware default or blanket security weakening.
2. USB: B400 guide p36 connects rear USB B to PC USB A with USB 2.0/3.0 cable; cancel Found New Hardware if shown, then install compatible driver. Extract verified PCL6 V4 ZIP and use current Windows Add Printer Wizard with actual model/driver location. Verify real USB queue/port/media/options and test. Old CD menus are not assumed ZIP contents. Smart Start guide p8 cannot create initial USB printers; existing USB updates/More Options are separate, not network discovery.
3. Ethernet: coordinate shared jobs, power off, connect Cat5-or-better to approved switch/router, power on and identify actual IP. Compatible Smart Start scans network: select actual B400, Quick Install or Advanced Install for actual print system/PDL/queue. Missing printer: Don't See Your Printer, real hostname/IP, Advanced Search. Coordinate required administrator elevation. Confirm actual queue/address/media/options and test. No example IP, arbitrary shared-address changes or B405 scanning.
4. Optional Wi-Fi adapter only: follow its exact fitting instructions powered off; do not pull forcefully. Authorized administrator: Home / Device / Connectivity / Wi-Fi, enable, approved actual SSID/authentication / OK. Coordinate restart/changes, confirm actual IP/network/port, use network driver procedure and test. Do not disable encryption/authentication.

Troubleshooting

No output: power/sleep, paper/toner/panel error and selected B400 queue. USB: cable/real PC port; network: actual IP/port/network before manual discovery. Wireless: installed optional adapter and approved SSID/authentication. Match actual media size/type/tray to job; follow panel and exact manual for jams. Preserve shared jobs/network; no mass queue deletion or factory reset. Persistent errors need model/OS/CPU/connection/message for official support.
